Howie,
I'll bet that thousands of footy fans in the US and Canada wish they could get the live telecasts from Australia, too, myself included. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any way to do that at present.
The primary problem is that none of the Australian satellite feeds of the matches can be received directly from US territory (except perhaps in Hawaii). Even a large professional satellite dish (10 feet diameter or more) and based on the west coast can barely do the GF off of a New Zealand satellite. Even if you could get the signal, it is in PAL format and would require conversion to be usable on US televisions. They are also encrypted signals in some instances. There is some talk of an "Australian TV" channel for the US sometime in the next few years but to my knowledge no financing has been raised for that effort.
AFANA would love to own the live rights to the footy here and distribute it but it would take more money than we have and more subscribers than we think we could sign up to make it work. Hang in there, though, my guess is that it will happen eventually.
As to the afl.com.au audio and video, we have detailed info in our most media update. Just like last season, the audio is live and video is 24 hour delayed. We don't have the pricing for the audio only packages yet as they don't go on sale until March. The all up package is A$49.95 this month (about US$30) and goes A$10 next month for the entire year. Weekly and monthly packages will also go on sale next month according to the AFL.
We'll have more on all this in our future media newsletters including a full recap of all the ways to get your footy in 2003 in an upcoming issue for US and Canadian fans.
