Roos v Crows in LA in Jan 2004 Sunday, 14 September 2003, at 9:56 a.m. US Eastern Time

Great news for footy fans in the US! North Melbourne and Adelaide will play an exhibition match in the UCLA Arena in Los Angeles on January 25, 2004 (the day before Australia Day), as part of the Aussiefest, which showcases Australia in film, arts, sport, food and tourism.
Kangaroos president Allen Aylett said the club was proud to be invited to participate in the match, and hoped it would become part of next year's Wizard Cup fixture.
More details in the not too distant future.

Johnson,

I am anything but thrilled. First, I don't even know what Arena they are talking about (Pauley Pavilion?, Healthsouth?, etc.). Second, it is likely too small unless I am completely confused about the location, which is possible.

Far more importantly, this is exactly what AFANA has warned the AFL about for years: Don't repeat the mistakes of the late 80's: do it without sufficient time to promote it, do it in the wrong venue, and do it without involving the key footy organizations in the US.

Arrrgh! I am happy for fans but this could be another farce if the AFL doesn't get it together quickly.

AFANA will be making more information on the exhibition available soon. I should say though that some sources now indicate the Crows have pulled out of the match and another club may fill in.

Either way, AFANA remains very concerned that the exhibition is being planned with too short of a lead time and without proper planning for fans such as yourself who may wish to attend.
