Any thoughts on this season? Monday, 12 July 2004, at 8:11 p.m. US Eastern Time

What does anybody think of the season so far? Being a Geelong member, I am extremely cautious from one week to another about my Catters. Sure I am pleased with the team winning matches after the bad 0-3 start, but the side has to learn to win outside of Victoria. Geelong goes to Footy Park to play the Crows in round 21. We shall see. I predicted before the season that Geelong would play in a preliminary final.
Melbourne is in an even numbered year, so finals are on tap. I just do not see the Dees being a factor in the finals. If they are in the top four, they will lose the qualifying final and then the semifinal and be done. If they finish 5 though 8, Melbourne will win the elimination final, but lose a semifinal.
St. Kilda is falling apart, seem to only win at Colonial Stadium. Geelong will probably take the Sainters spot in the top four by round 22.
The premiers will be among these three--Brisbane, Port Adelaide and Geelong.
Essendon and North Melbourne are the most disappointing sides to me. Sorry Collingwood and Hawthorn supporters, it breaks my heart to see your sides that far down on the ladder.
I wonder if Denis Pagan regrets taking the Carlton coaching job. If Princes Park is no longer used as a match venue. Colonial and the MCG will not be able to handle all the matches in Melbourne. Why, why, why did the league give up on 70,000 seats at Waverley??????? I have seen two St. Kilda matches there and I just loved the place. How stupid could the AFL be. A third finals venue was built at the Docklands. Letting Waverley go to hell was a major, major, major mistake. Sir Kenneth Luke is still rolling over in his grave as his legacy to the VFL project was destroyed. The MCC is still a problem, trying to control the league and the MCC members not supporting the Demons, the home ground team.
I will get off the soap box. Any other opinions, disagreements??
G'day from Kansas.

I would like it to be Geelong, but I don't think it will happen. Brisbane is coming on strong again. I wouldn't bet against them. It will be interesting to see if Port pulls another playoff flop.
