Hi all,

Although over the years we've updated and modified this BBS software (based on WebBBS), it has become dated and behind the times. The original vendor/developer has not released a major upgrade in over 2 years. While a v6.00 is in testing, it won't be much more than a bug fix and an incorporation of many mods we already have. It doesn't help that it's slow and uses a lot of server resources. The registration system is not robust and more and more we need to have all users registered for security and legal reasons. So, we have to decide whether to stay with WebBBS or move to something more modern.

I'd like to ask all of the users here to give us some feedback:

  • Are you happy with the BBS as it is? Or would you like to see us move to something like phpBB or vBulletin? (you can easily do a Google search and find hundreds of phpBB and vBulletin boards around).
  • What features do you want that we don't have at present?
  • What features should we make sure the new BBS has that the current one has?
  • Anything else you want to say about the BBS?

Thanks for your help and best regards,

-Rob de Santos

As a regular visitor to this site and financial member of AFANA here are my comments.
The advantages of the latest forum boards are that you can run various topics at the same time. Currently they could be – US Footy TV cover – Rules of the game for newbies – Umpiring decisions – Footy in the US and so on.
Server costs might be higher than current set up, have never run a board only a web site so am not sure.
Cheers

Phil

I personally prefer phpBB. Plus I think it just looks a lot nicer than the one AFANA currently has.
