What a season! & LA game? & a 'Thank you!' Tuesday, 27 September 2005, at 12:18 p.m. US Eastern Time

What a great Grand Final! One of the best sports matches I've ever seen. A fantastic ending to a fantastic season. This was the first year I joined a club (Kangaroos) and paid attention the whole season. My Kangas had some great comebacks and the Swans certainly made the playoffs exciting. I'm still viewing the Swans v. Cats 4th quarter at the AFL website. I'm definitely hooked on this sport now and it's broken into my Top 3. I'm still a NASCAR and NFL fan, but Footy is giving them a run for their money!

Is AFANA organizing anything for the Swans v. Kangaroos exhibition in L.A. in January? I'm really considering going (How often does the opportunity to see your favortie team and the new champions play in America come along?). It would be nice if I go to meet up with fellow Footy fans.

I would also like to thank Chairman Rob and everyone at AFANA for their work on the TV coverage and the website. It is much appreciated. Especially to Lisa for those email newsletters. I look forward to them every week and they're always very informative and the best game summaries you can find. I'll be joining AFANA when my next check clears! I filled out that FSC survey thing so I hope it will help and get us some better Footy coverage. 2AM, a week late, and only twice is just ridiculous. I hate soccer more and more everyday. Watching a bunch of litter runts playing hacky-sack for 90 minutes for a score of maybe 2-0 is the most ridiculous and time wasting sport I've ever had the displeasure of watching. It actually makes golf look exciting and fast-paced. But I digress.....

I hope all is well with everybody at AFANA and the Footy fans on this board. Till next time, take care and God Bless!

Yes, it was a fantastic match. Just reinforces my belief if we can get people to watch they will become fans.

We've covered this extensively in our TV and Media newsletter. It does more than just give TV schedules. There are also some long threads here on the BBS.

We are all taking a few days off here and then we'll get to work putting a travel package together for fans who wish to go. Give us a few weeks and we'll have some major announcements.

You are most welcome. We're justifiably proud of all of our news contributors both in North America and Australia. We have original web site news on the home page, finals photos, and Lisa's great newsletters just to name a few.

It remains to be seen how much impact the survey will have but if nothing else, it was a thumb in the eye to FSC.

We look forward to having you as a member.

Tell me about it.

When somebody makes the mistake of saying "everybody else in the world calls it football" around me, they get an earfull back. Everybody in the world calls the locally most popular football code "football"; Association Football just happens to be the locally most popular in most places (and when they have no idea what I mean by "Association Football", it just proves my point about watching soccer rotting your brain).

Is there any other football code that prohibits the use of hands? Is there any other football code that uses a goalie?

Actually, there is one kind of soccer I can enjoy. Women's soccer teams tend to play hard the whole game. But in the end, it's still soccer.

Before this thread continues further in this direction, I have a reminder to all BBS participants:

Because of past problems, our user policy as stated on the help screens and in other places, specifically prohibits debates about footy vs soccer or why soccer or footy are superior, etc.:

"Please limit your topics to Australian football, TV coverage, and related matters. Discussions of other sports and footy vs. soccer, etc. will be deleted."

We'll never convince the other side and they won't convince us and it only leads to problems. So, I suggest if we want to continue we should stick to why we think footy is better able to be sold to the masses or something like that. We don't want to have to delete or edit messages or take other action. This isn't about censorship. It's about keeping this board civil, relevant, and family friendly.

Certainly didn't mean to take the conversation to "left field". Just had to get a soccer dig in!

I'll stay tuned for those LA updates if/when a package is put together. That would be great!

You're 100% right about just getting people to watch and they'll like it. That is exactly how I found Footy. Back when it was Fox Sports World (much better programming) I just happened to be flipping and came across this interesting sport that had these tough-ass Aussies playing something that looked liked a mix of rugby, soccer, and football. Needless to say I was intrigued and kept checking in on it. Now I understand the game and have become a huge fan. For people who like NFL it's just as hard hitting and the marks look like those great catches wide receivers make in football. Even when you don't understand the rules the rough physical play keeps you watching and you'll pick up on it. If Footy caught the right breaks in the USA it would push some emerging sports (I'll leave them nameless) back into shadows in no time. As an American who is ambivalent about that sport that rhymes with 'rocker', Footy gives you exactly what those sports lack. Too bad it wasn't on TV more. With the NHL out of action and out of people's minds the room for something may have been there. Of course us Footy fans can keep rubbing our rabbit's feet and hope that MLB, NHL, and the NBA have lock-outs or strikes in the same season. Maybe we'd get that ESPN coverage!

An early version of 3-2-1-Footy was really 4-3-2-1-Footy. It opened with correction of four popular misconceptions. The #1 misconception? "Everybody else in the world calls it football." So you see, this thread isn't as far off topic as you think. ;)
