Making the best of AFL Streaming Video Web Link Thursday, 23 March 2006, at 2:43 a.m. US Eastern Time

For those of you in the same boat I am in regard to footy on TV in the USA - Setanta out of reach - I'd like to remind people of the tutorial I put together on making the best of the AFL's streaming video service.

Yes, it's only worth bothering with if you've got a fast internet connection (and a fast PC, if you want to transcode to DVD) but for some it may be the only option.

Streaming Video Tutorial

Thanks for once again keeping that information available to fans. It's well done and useful.

Thanks a million for posting that tutorial. I'll definitely have to give it a try since FSC isn't showing footy this year. The really sad part is that unless the grand final is aired live, the ripping good grand final party held at the Aussie embassy in Washington DC won't happen this year.

I think the Comcast Sports network will be showing the 30 minute AFL weekly wrap-up on wednesday nights, at least in the midatlantic market. Still the AFL.com.au subscription sounds like the best idea. I'll definitely have to make a DVD of the games as we usually had a weekly footy night to watch the Toyota Aussie Rules broadcasts.

Thanks again!!!

I'm sure George is glad you found it useful. The Grand Final will be live but not on FSC so the embassy will be able to have it's party by pointing their dish at a different satellite in all probability. (Aside: it would be nice if they let us know so we can include them in our party listings!)

That hasn't been officially confirmed by either Comcast or the AFL and they would have to get it from MHz not Fox this year. If they are showing it, as soon as we have confirmation we will include them in our TV listings in our newsletter and have info on our TV page on this site. The program is one hour long.

the comcast sports page had the "AFL weekly" listed on their TV listings page, but for only 30 minutes of programming. I thought it was weird that only 30 minutes was listed as I know they showed the full hour last year. Maybe it isn't the same AFL??

http://midatlantic.comcastsportsnet.com/tv-listings.asp?date=4/27/2006&listdate=4/5/2006

The embassy party is by invite only, so you essentially have to be an ozzie expat or know one to get you in. The year before last they had problems and had to cancel the party as the cable wasn't installed yet or something. Last year they used adelphia cable for the broadcast, so if they don't have satellite we still might be out of luck.

Thanks for the info!!!

Yep, it's the the Arena Football League. Trust us, we'll have all the schedules and we will get them right. ;)

OK. I can understand that but a third of our members and tens of thousands of our web site visitors are ex-pats and some of them live in the DC area. And practically all of the American site visitors here and newsletter readers, know lots of ex-pats. For many years, they sent us announcements, then they stopped.

The embassy used to have a satellite dish and I would ordinarily assume most every embassy would for other reasons but I am never surprised by anything. And, they have oh, about six months to work on this problem. :)

Strange, i wonder why they would stop sending them. It's usually not a well kept secret I don't think. I'm just a tag along yank, not an ozzie expat so i don't know all the particulars. all i know is for the 2004 finals we drove all the way up to DC only to be turned away at the door as they had no cable service!!

damn AFL weekly! i thought that smelled fishy!! oh well, i'll keep my eyes on your newsletter for any changes. thanks a million for all the info. your site is a great service to all us footy fans abroad.
