The only real difference is that Teams 5-8 don't have the double chance. They HAVE to win in the first week or they are out. I suppose it is an improvement as it rightly gives the better advantage to the top 4 teams. Had it been in effect in 1998 and last year, neither Carlton nor the Crows would have made the GF.
