This site is not particularly slower (or faster!) than most of the others I use so I can only surmise it has to do with how your ISP connects to our host. We have had a few complaints but we've never been able to pin down a specific cause.
On the BBS at least, response time can be improved by setting your preferences to not display all 250+ messages currently on the BBS. This can be done by changing the time frame to something other than the default 12 months. The BBS code is getting pretty complex and that does affect the speed at which it generates the pages. Unlike the rest of the site, the BBS generates pages on the fly so the speed of the host and the code matter.
