Chicago GF Party

The party at Joe's came off without a hitch. We had a large side room with several large screens and a number of smaller TVs mounted above booths which lined one wall. Plenty of screens on which to see all the action. And the volume was able to be cranked up enough so we could hear the commentary,. The management even worked out a deal with their Foster's distributor - $2.00 per can and bottle (12 oz, not the oilcan size). We had 30-40 fans there, including one couple who drove down from Madison, WI for the game. Peter and Christine are from Melbourne and he is a mad Essendon fan. At my table also was another Australian who supported the Roos. There was also an American couple who will be moving to Melbourne in several months. She hates him watching American football, so he figured he would introduce her to Aussie Rules. I think it worked. There was another coupe there from Pittsburgh who had been planning on going to Mel's party, but for some reason (I didn't get the details) ended up in Chicago and discovered our party through the internet.
We were all pretty steamed at the blocks of ads in the first term. And Peter was amusingly dismayed at the Foster's ads, saying how it makes it tough doing business because of the sterotypes they engender.
The trivia contest at half time was fun, even though my co-host forgot to pick up the lottery tickets we were going to give out for each correct answer. No one seemed to notice or care. And the winners of the door prizes were happy with what they receivd.

I can certainly sympathize with Richard Lipp on the problems he had this year, as we had the same problem last year when Gamekeepers suddenly could not pull in FSW, forcing us to relocate. Fortunately, I knew of another bar two blocks away which was carrying the game. Unfortunately, the downstairs party area was very jammed and very hot and stuffy.

Dan and I will definitely be having our GF party at Joe's again next year.

I am sure the Chicago Swans' party was also a success. But for my liking, it was just too hot, steamy, and humid for a pregame pub crawl.
