AFL internet radio coverage Tuesday, 10 April 2001, at 10:56 p.m. US Eastern Time

Did you know that you can listen to ALL AFL matches via Internet radio (depending on matches chosen by each radio station)? If you have listened to the coverage, perhaps you may have something to say, e.g.
*How is the quality (any noises, interruptions)?
*commentary (Do you like to listen to Rex Hunt on 3AW, or Tim Lane and co. on the ABC?)
*choice of matches
*suggestions
*Do you bother waking up so early (or stay up late) to listen to footy?
Why not drop us a line here?

Johnson Leung

P.S. in case you may forget, the two websites that provide radio coverage are:
3AW: http://www.3aw.com.au/index.shtml (for Melbourne-based matches)
ABC Radio: http://www.abc.net.au/afl/ (for interstate matches, with some matches in Melbourne covered as well)
covered as well)

Hi Johnson -

Fellow footy reporter Lisa here.
2:10 games there translates into 11:00 PM the night before here and &:40 PM games = 4 AM on the same day.
Yep, I stay up into the wee hours on Friday and Saturday nites to listen to the games. And will snooze on the sofa for a few hours sometimes on Friday and get up at 4 AM to listen to the Sat. nite games. I was disappointed this round though as ABC broadcast only the Freo game when I really wanted to listen to the Port game. My system can't handle Windows Media. I wish the AFL would make ALL games accessible thru ABC - or let Triple M back on the net. I really enjoyed the 3M broadcasts before the AFL made them pull the plug a few years ago. And I would love to listen to Eddie and Sam call games as I am a huge fan of the Footy Show (a friend in NSW sends me tapes).
The connections are a major improvement from the past as there is very little drop out and disconnection now. FINALLY. Last year was an absolute joke and made worse by the fact the AFL was charging $50.00 for it. I am glad they abandoned that idea.
The only other glitch this year (as I reported to Rob) was after the 1/2 time break of the ANZAC game, someone forgot to throw the proverbial switch to reconnect the game to the ISP. The station had cut to the local studios for news at 1/2 time and that was blacked out. I had to follow the 2nd half via the text commentary. Shame, too, as that game was a ripper.

Hi,

Since you replied to a 3 year old message, you'll need to clarify your request a bit... if you mean how do you post here? you already did. If you mean, how do you join this BBS? you don't need to register. If you mean, how do you join AFANA? go to: http://www.afana.com/whathowjoin.shtml. If you mean, how do listen to the audio of the matches? go to the AFL web site (http://www.afl.com.au) and look for the "international" button on the right side and go from there. Video is pay, but audio is again free with the links posted on the AFL home page just before each match starts. Hope this helps, and write back if we've misunderstood your request.

Perhaps one of our Aussie readers can answer as I doubt seriously any of us over here in North America knows. Alternatively, you can listen via the internet to the AFL web site though access policies for Australian residents are different than those for non-Australians.

Also, depending on whether you listen on AM or FM, I imagine that radio propagation conditions in Australia are best determined by radio enthusiasts on a "dx" [distant reception] web site. You also might consider contacting his "home" station, 3AW, and ask them if they have any affiliates in your area.
