This is for the Aussie members of the board.

Are any of you old enough to remember chanel 7's world of sport programme of the late 60s and if so do you remember the handball game that was a feature of the football segment? I'm looking for information and footage of those games.

As best I remember, the game was a basketball/netball type game played on a diamond shaped court with the football being handballed (not thrown) from player to player and a goal was scored whnen the ball was passed through a hole that was set in a verticle board about 4 to 5 feet above the ground.

Can anyone help me with more of the rules.

I think this game if refined and further developed could be a usefull adjunct to further promoting Aussie Rules outside of Australia as well as being a usefull skills excercise in its own right.

I suggest you to buy a copy of the video "The Best of World of Sport" (or something like that) which features such a handball tournament. You can try the Visual Entertainment Group website at www.veg.com.au

Is the Sunday Footy Show still doing their handball contest? I have some of those shows on tape and it sounds similar. The contests I saw were hosted by Lou Richards.

Hi Lisa

Yes the Sunday Footy Show still does the handball comp - but it's not the same game that I was looking for.

The game details I was after is a basketball/(European) handball cross played with an Aussie Rules footy on a diamond shaped court.

The tape that Johnson suggested had the game -- now all I need do is track down the court dimensions and rules ;)

Fatty & Sterlo
how can you say the best team won on Sunday with the Roosters beating the Cowboys. What a joke with the umpire not stopping the clock and also not awarding a pentalty to the Cowboys for off side. Also with the Cowboys scoring 3 tries to 2 and you dismissing the fact as nothing because you guys always wanted Sydney teams in the Grand Final. Also this would give your mate Fittler a fond farewell. Roosters wasted 25 seconds of playing shooting for a penalty and not stopping time why cant you cpmment on that. Also the Ref needs to go maybe to Netball cause he certainley can't ref Rugby football. Why was Ricketts not put on report for smashing Fein in the face?

What is it with you 2 coming to Townsville to commontateon our game when we got in the Finals and not before!!!!!!!!
The guys do a great job up here and actually call the game fairly.

Put this on your Footy show /web site and next week edition of rugby week's league

Helen,

Thanks for visiting AFANA's footy BBS. Unfortunately, the message you responded to was over 3 years old and we are a web site dedicated to Aussie rules exclusively and oriented toward North American fans of that sport.

So, while you might have a good argument, not many of us here will have much idea what you are talking about and in any event, couldn't much help with it. :-)
