Naismith Gets the Tap-Out

In mid-October, the Kangaroos and Adelaide traded draft selections, allowing the Roos to move up a notch or two in the draft order. North received selection 23 in this year's draft in exchange for pick 59 and a future second-round selection. Gold Coast, Sydney, and West Coast delisted players while Essendon looks to get twin "favorite sons".

The Kangaroos also delisted midfielder Jared Polec. Polec was originally drafted by Brisbane but was later traded to Port Adelaide. He joined North at the end of the 2018 season and played every game in 2019. However, he was restricted to 18 games over the next two seasons due to injury. He was delisted at the end of 2021 and added to the rookie list. Polec, 30, was hampered by a foot injury early in the season and required surgery.

Gold Coast delisted defender Oleg Markov. Markov was originally drafted by Richmond where he played 23 games and was a member of their VFL premiership side. He was traded to the Suns at the end of 2020 and played 28 games.

In ;late October, the Swans delisted Sam Naismith, James Bell, and Ben Ronke. Sam Naismith, a Sydney Swans Academy graduate, joined the club through the rookie draft in 2012. A horror run of knee injuries restricted him to just 30 games. Off the field, he was active in several charitable causes including an organization for mental health. Fellow Academy graduate James Bell joined the club through the rookie draft in 2017 and after strong NEAFL form made his debut against Port Adelaide in 2019. Bell went on to play 28 AFL games and kicked 10 goals. A proud Yuin-Dunghutti [aboriginal] man, among Bell’s highlights was celebrating his first goal through dance as a tribute to his family. Small forward Ben Ronke burst on the scene with the Sydney Swans, booting seven goals at the MCG against Hawthorn in just his third AFL match in 2018. Recruited through the rookie draft in 2016, Ronke went on to play 44 senior games and kick 39 goals.

The Eagles delisted Zane Trew and Isiah Winder. However, the club could still add them to the rookie list. Trew was drafted as rookie in 2020l, but injuries restricted him to just two games. Winder was also drafted in 2020 and played seven games.

Alwyn and Jayden Davey, the twin sons of the former Essendon forward Alwyn Davey, Sr. have nominated Essendon as their club of choice under the father son rule. Alwyn is a small forward who had a very good season with the Oakleigh Chargers in the NAB League and represented Vic Metro. Jayden, also a small forward, missed the season due to a second missed the season due to a knee reconstruction. The pair have boarded at Xavier College in Melbourne in recent years, having grown up being in the changerooms at the end of their father's 100-game career with the Bombers, and have also been a part of Essendon's father-son program. Their father kicked 120 goals for the Bombers across his seven-year career, while his brother Aaron Davey, the uncle of the twins played 178 games and booted 174 goals for the Demons.

I remember when Gold Coast delisted Oleg Markov and wondered what the reason was (since he has Russian roots.) According to his friend from the 1212 angel number team, he was traded to the Suns at the end of 2020
