All-Australian defender Nathan Bock will not play out the season with the Crows after announcing he had accepted an offer to join the Gold Coast Suns next season. Sydney's Nick Malceski can be considered an AFL pioneer. Several years ago, he wrecked his knee late in the season and was facing a year on the sidelines until a new procedure came along. The LARS system, which uses synthetic fibers to create tissue, saw Malceski back on the field after just four months.  read more »

Round 18 Tribunal

Hawthorn took Cyril Rioli's case to the Tribunal in an effort to have one of the charges dismissed. They were contesting the charge of attempting to strike as the incident occurred during a brawl which saw nine players, including Rioli, fined. Rioli accepted the fine as well as the charge of striking and later admitted that frustration led to his brain fade. He said he would take responsibility for his actions but did not testify.  read more »

Tredrea Calls It A Day

In the week leading up to Round 18, Port Adelaide's Warren Tredrea announced his immediate retirement. In the announcement he said he felt himself struggling mentally and had already decided to retire at the end of the season. He said that while he loved training and playing, being the face of the club and all that entails was wearing on him.  read more »

Sydney's Henry Playfair announced his immediate retirement ahead of Round 16 due to a serious back injury. He was initially injured in Round 14. After consulting club medical staff, the injury plagued star decided he could not face another lengthy round of rehab.  read more »

Just one day before Port Adelaide was to play Collingwood, Port Coach Mark Williams was summoned to meet club Chairman Brett Duncanson at his home. A long discussion took place in which Duncanson pointed out the toll the club's poor performances - including Round 15, the club has lost eight straight games - has taken on Williams and his family. In the end, Williams agreed with Duncanson that it was time to step down as coach after 15 years.  read more »
