Comparison of Contemporary Game Style with Past Decades

There have been articles published this year where senior fans of Australian rules football complain that the game isn't as exciting as it was decades ago. Are there legitimate points that can be discussed here or are these simply old duffers who just don't seem to think that anything is as good now as when they were young? I've been a fan for barely five years and I can't compare the game now to any time in the past.

Been a fan 40+ years. it has changed a lot. most of the players run much more than even 20 years ago when they stayed more in areas of the field. less physical whacking each other. with so many cameras can't get away with much.
Same is true of NA sports .. Football can't touch the QB ...handcuffing the defensive players im so many ways etc..
Basketball . the 3 point shot... no hand checking etc

The AFL is still the best team sport on this planet. imo
