FiOS TV Gets GlobeCast International Channels

GlobeCast said it reached an agreement with Verizon to supply its WorldTV international channels for the telco's FiOS TV [fiber optic based TV] video offering as well as the fiber-supported broadband service.

GlobeCast said it will initially furnish FiOS TV with signal transport and licensing rights for up to 37 international channels in 18 languages. The channels come from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

In 2007, GlobeCast plans to provide Verizon with access to another 40 channels.

The agreement allows Verizon to make WorldTV programming available to consumers on both a linear and VOD distribution basis, GlobeCast said.

Whether this will include MHz I don't know yet but that might be a reasonable expectation, particularly for the second set of channels in 2007.  That would improve MHz reach and give those Verizon customers the chance to see the Aussie rules coverage on MHz.
