There were no match day reports or post-match charges laid by the Match Review Panel from last week's Preliminary Finals.

The AFL has again warned players from both Geelong and Port Adelaide that any offenses during the Grand Final will incur more severe penalties than usual. Tribunal chairman David Jones, on instruction from AFL Operations Manager Adrian Anderson, reminded both club's that the Grand Final is the AFL's showpiece and that the players had a responsibility to behave.

In 2004, Brisbane forward Alistair Lynch lashed out at Port defender Darryl Wakelin, throwing a series of haymakers and Brisbane's Jonathan Brown was charged with striking Port's Josh Carr. Lynch was handed a 10 game suspension but, because that game was his last, was hit with a $10,000 fine. Brown was suspended for five games and sat out the start of the 2005 season.

Collingwood's Brodie Holland missed the first six games of this season after being found guilty of rough conduct against Western Bulldog Brett Montgomery in last year's Elimination Final.
