FREMANTLE

Matthew Carr has announced his retirement. Carr said he felt he could no longer keep up with the pace of the game, a his skills were slipping, so his time had come. Club CEO Cameron Schwab praised Carr's contribution to the club and his work in mentoring younger players. Schwab said those qualities have led the club to work with Carr and his management to find an off-field role at the club.

Carr, 29, was selected by St. Kilda in the 1998 Preseason draft and played 28 games for the Saints before returning to WA at the end of 2000 where he joined his brother Josh at the Dockers. His impact was immediate as he led the club in kicks and marks (catch of the ball) in his first season with Fremantle. He played in the International Rules Series in 2003 and was named in WA's State team that year. In 2004-2005, injuries restricted him to just 20 games but he returned in 2006 better than ever. He played all 22 games as well as the club's three finals matches. He played 17 games in 2007 but was injured in Round 20 and missed the last 2 games. He played a total of 134 games for the Dockers.
