Most Years Between Coaching a Premiership: Collingwood Coach Mick Malthouse finally broke the fourth longest gap between Premierships as a coach. His last coaching win came in 1994 at West Coast. The longest coaching gap belongs to Allan Jeans who coached St Kilda to their first and only Premiership in 1966 but then had to wait 23 years before success as Hawthorn's coach in 1989. Next is Collingwood coach Jock McHale with 29 years between 1917 and 1936. He is followed by David Parkin who coached Hawthorn in 1978 and Carlton in 1995 for a gap of 17 years. Tied with Malthouse are Checker Hughes who had to wait 16 years between Premiership wins at Richmond in 1932 and Melbourne in 1964 and Kevin Sheedy at Essendon 1984 and 2000.

He joins Ron Barassi (1955, 1956, 1957, 1959, 1960 and 1964 as a player with Melbourne, 1968 and 1970 as a coach with Carlton and 1975 and 1977 as a coach with North Melbourne) and Leigh Matthews (1971, 1976, 1978 and 1983 as a player with Hawthorn, 1990 as a coach with Collingwood and 2001, 2002 and 2003 as a coach with the Brisbane Lions).
