Dear Tipsters,

I wouldn't normally do this but due to the fact that it was Anzac Day, about which I feel strongly, I thought it better to put it right. Apparently the picture of the bicycle supposedly left behind by a young man going to war in 1914 was one of those urban legends. The picture was sent to me by a good mate in all innocence and I used it as a memorial to Anzac Day. I should have checked it like Elie L, one of my readers, did and many thanks to him for researching it and letting me know.

The real story about the bike can be found here: http://snopes.com/photos/natural/bicycle.asp

I guess the saying that never let the facts get in the way of a good story holds true!

Regards

JL
