650 games coached: Kevin Sheedy coached his 650th game in Round 16. He coached Essendon in 635 games 1981-2007. The leading ten coaches in the game’s history are Jock McHale (714 games with Collingwood), Michael Malthouse (664 games with Footscray, West Coast and Collingwood), Kevin Sheedy (650 games with Essendon and the GWS Giants), Allan Jeans (575 games with St Kilda, Hawthorn and Richmond), Tom Hafey (522 games with Richmond, Collingwood, Geelong and the Sydney Swans), David Parkin (518 games with Hawthorn, Carlton and Fitzroy), Ron Barassi (515 games with Melbourne, Carlton, North Melbourne and the Sydney Swans), Leigh Matthews (461 games with Collingwood and the Brisbane Lions), Norm Smith (449 games with Fitzroy, Melbourne and South Melbourne) and Dick Reynolds (415 games with Essendon).

AFL Life Membership: Matthew Pavlich (FRE) played his 300th game in Round 16. This qualifies him for AFL Life Membership. Pavlich debuted in 2000 and has played 271 regular season games, 25 pre-season games, one State of Origin match and three International Rules games. He is the first player in Docker history to play 300 games.

Consecutive losses: Gold Coast Suns, through Round 15, lost 22 consecutive matches. In an ironic twist, their previous win prior to defeating the Tigers in Round 16 came against Richmond in Round 17, 2011. The longest losing runs in League history are University (51 losses; Rd 4, 1912 - Rd 18, 1914), St Kilda (48 losses; Rd 1, 1897 - Rd 17, 1899), North Melbourne (35 losses; Rd 17, 1933 - Rd 15, 1935), North Melbourne (33 losses; Rd 6, 1930 - Rd 2, 1932), South Melbourne (29 losses; Rd 7, 1972 - Rd 13, 1973), St Kilda (27 losses; Rd 2, 1900 - Rd 11, 1901), Hawthorn (27 losses; Rd 16, 1927 - Rd 6, 1929), Fitzroy (27 losses; Rd 11, 1963 - Rd 1, 1965), Sydney Swans (26 losses; Rd 9, 1992 - Rd 12, 1993) and St Kilda (23 losses; Rd 13, 1901 - Rd 1, 1903).
