The AFL will hold its Annual General Meeting in March, at which time eight people will be awarded Life Membership.

The new life members will be:
Matthew Scarlett (Geelong): 284 games, 29 preseason games, one state game and three matches for Australia; Premierships 2007, 2009 and 2011: 2003 club Best and Fairest; All Australian 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Retired at the end of 2012.

Matthew Pavlich (Fremantle): ahead of the 2013 season 279 games (club record), 25 preseason matches, one state game and three matches for Australia. Fremantle Captain since 2007; All Australian 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008; club Best and Fairest 2002, 2005-2008, 2011; club leading goalkicker 2001, 2005-2010, 2012.

Guy McKenna (West Coast, Gold Coast Coach): 287 games with the Eagles1988-2000; Premierships 1992, 1994; Eagles Best and Fairest 1989, 1999, four State of Origin games, All Australian 1991, 1993, 1994; West Coast Captain 1999-2000, West Coast assistant coach 2001-2002, Claremont senior coach 2003, Collingwood assistant coach 2004-2007, appointed coach of Gold Coast development team in 2008 in preparation for entry into the AFL.

Damian Hardwick (Essendon, Port Adelaide, Richmond Coach): 153 games with Essendon 1994-2001, Essendon Best and Fairest 1998, Essendon Premiership 2000, All Australian 2000, International Rules 2000-2001, Essendon life member; 54 games with Port Adelaide 2001-2004, Port Adelaide Premiership 2004, Hawthorn assistant coach 2008, Richmond senior coach since 2010.

Ross Lyon (Fitzroy, Brisbane, St Kilda senior coach, current Fremantle Coach): 127 games with Fitzroy 1985-1994, two games with Brisbane 1995; Richmond assistant coach 1996-1999, Carlton assistant coach 2000-2003, Sydney assistant coach 2004-2006, St Kilda senior coach 2007-2011, appointed Fremantle Coach 2012.

Kevin Rose (Collingwood): 159 games 1958-67, Premiership 1958, club president 1996-98, served on the board for ten years, Collingwood life member. Senior coach of Fitzroy 1975-1977 and coached VFL club Prarhan to two Premierships.

Michael Green (Richmond): 146 games 1966-71 and 1973-75; Premierships 1967, 1969, 1973-1974, named back pocket in Richmond's Team of the Century. Served on Richmond's board and match committee and was an assistant coach and reserves coach. Since 1995, he has been a Director of AFL SportsReady and a member of the AFL Tribunal (1995-98) and the AFL Appeals Board (1998-present).

Trevor Nisbett (West Coast): played in the WAFL with East Perth, later serving as the club's Football Manager and then General Manager. He crossed to WAFL club Subiaco in an administrative capacity. While there, Subiaco played in successive WAFL Grand Finals 1985-1988, winning all but the first one. Nisbett was appointed West Coast's Football Manager in 1989 and was appointed to his current role as CEO in 1999.

West Coast vice-captain Beau Waters will join the AFL Laws Committee this year as the current player representative. He replaces Docker captain Matthew Pavlich, who stepped down after four years due to increased study and business commitments.

Waters debuted for the Eagles and has played 113 games. He was a member of the Eagles' Premiership team in 2006 and was named All Australian in 2012 for the first time.

in 2013, Waters joins committee members Gillian McLachlan (acting current Chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Joel Bowden, Leigh Matthews, Luke Power, Rowan Sawers, Michael Sexton, and Shane McCurry (secretary).
