The two week trade period saw a lot of action and concluded on October 17. A number of players requested trades to other clubs while others were moved on reluctantly. Clubs also traded draft selections to strengthen their prospects in picking up needed players.

Adelaide traded their Round One Selection (currently number 10) and their on-traded Round Three Selection (currently number 47) to the Geelong Cats for their Round One Selection (currently number 14) and their Round Two Selection (currently number 35).

Hawthorn traded Kyle Cheney, Luke Lowden, their on-traded Round Three Selection (currently number 43), their on-traded Round Three Selection (currently number 47) and their Round Three Selection (currently number 59) to the Adelaide Crows for their Round Two Selection (currently number 31), their Round Three Selection (currently number 50) and their Round Four Selection (currently number 68).

Cheney played nine games in 2014 for a career total of 41. He was originally drafted by the Demons and played 4 games for Melbourne before joining the Hawks at the end of 2010. Lowden, a ruckman, was drafted in 2008 and debuted in 2014 - his only senior game.

The Western Bulldogs traded Liam Jones to Carlton for their Round Three Selection (currently 46). Jones, a tall forward and 2011 Rising Star nominee, played 66 games with the Bulldogs. He was one of several players who requested a trade to another club amidst rumors of unrest within the playing group over senior coach Brendon McCartney.

The Sydney Swans traded Shane Biggs and their Round Two Free Agency Compensation Selection (currently number 39) to the Western Bulldogs for their on-traded Round Two Selection (currently number 37). Biggs was on Sydney's rookie list for two seasons and played three games in 2013.

GWS Giants traded Sam Frost, on-traded Round Two Selection (currently number 40) and their on-traded Round Three Selection (currently number 53) to Melbourne for their Round Two Selection (currently number 23).

The Western Bulldogs traded Adam Cooney to Essendon for their on-traded Round Two Selection (currently number 37). Cooney, 29, played 219 games for the Dogs and won the 2008 Brownlow Medal.

Hawthorn traded Mitch Hallahan to the Gold Coast Suns for their Round Three Selection (currently number 47) and their Round Three Expansion Compensation Selection (currently number 49). Hallahan was drafted by Hawthorn in 2010, won the Liston Trophy (best VFL player) in 2013 and played six senior games for the Hawks.

Essendon traded Paddy Ryder to Port Adelaide for their Round One Selection (currently number 17) and their Round Two Selection (currently number 37). Ryder, 26, played 170 games with the Bombers. He requested to be traded due to the effects of the supplements saga and nominated Port as his club of choice. Essendon initially wanted to cancel Ryder's contract so he could walk away as a free agent but the AFL nixed that plan.

GWS traded Jonathon Giles and their Round Four Selection (currently number 62) to Essendon for their Round Three selection (currently number 53). Giles requested a trade back to Victoria and nominated Essendon as his preferred club. Originally drafted by Port in 2005, Giles did not play any senior games and was rookie listed by GWS in 2010 and elevated to the senior list in 2011. Through 2013, Giles played 42 games.

GWS traded Tom Boyd to the Western Bulldogs for Ryan Griffen and their Round One Selection (currently number six). Both players requested a trade. GWS initially said Boyd, who wanted to return home, would not be traded but the club relented. Griffen, 28, also desired a change, saying he was not enjoying his football or the captaincy and was on the verge of quitting. The Giants were Griffen's club of choice as he felt a move away from Melbourne would be beneficial for him. Griffen played 202 games with the Bulldogs and was appointed captain in 2013. Boyd, the number one draft pick last year, played nine senior games in 2014.

St Kilda traded Rhys Stanley and their Round Four selection (currently number 60) to the Geelong Cats for their on-traded End Round One Compensation Selection (currently number 21).

GWS traded Kristian Jaksch, Mark Whiley and their on-traded Round One Selection (currently number 19) to Carlton for their Round One Selection (currently number seven). Jaksch was recruited to GWS from the Oakleigh Chargers with a first round draft pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2012 National Draft. The tall swing man debuted Round 22, 2013 and kicked a goal with his first ever kick at AFL level. The 20 year old as since played seven AFL games. Whiley was recruited to GWS ahead of the 2010 National Draft as one of the club’s NSW zone selections. He made his AFL debut in Round 12, 2012 and has since played 12 AFL games. The 21 year old is a promising midfielder who won the Giants’ NEAFL Player of the Year in 2013.

A three way deal saw Collingwood's Heritier Lumumba move to Melbourne, Melbourne's Mitch Clark head to his club of choice Geelong and Geelong's Travis Varcoe traded to Collingwood. Varcoe played 138 games with the Cats. He played in the 2009 preseason premiership as well as the 2009 and 2011 Premiership wins. Lumumba played 199 games with Collingwood including the 2010 Grand Final win.

North Melbourne reluctantly traded Levi Greenwood to Collingwood for their on-traded Round Two Selection (currently number 25). Greenwood was drafted in 2007, debuted in 2009 and played 74 games with the Kangaroos. He had a breakout season in 2014, finishing one vote short of winning North's best and fairest award this year. He played 22 games in 2014 and ranked among the club's leading players in a number of key statistical categories.

Collingwood traded Dayne Beams and their Round Four Selection (currently number 67) to the Brisbane Lions for Jack Crisp, their Round One Selection (currently number five) and their Round Two Selection (currently number 25). Crisp played the last six games of the season for the Lions to bring his total tally to 18. He averaged 20 possessions and a goal in the last six games. Beams told the club at season's end he wanted to be traded to Brisbane to be closer to his father who is battling cancer.

Geelong traded Allen Christensen to the Brisbane Lions for their on-traded End Round One Compensation Selection (currently number 21). 65 games with Cats 2011 Premiership.

Essendon made an offer to unrestricted free agent James Gwilt. The Saints did not match the offer and will not receive any compensation.

Brisbane traded Joel Patfull to GWS for their End Round One Compensation Selection (currently number 21). Patfull played 182 games for the Lions and won the club's best and fairest twice.

Carlton traded Jeff Garlett and their Round Five Selection (currently number 83) to Melbourne for their Round Four Selection (currently number 61) and their Round Five Selection (currently number 79). Garlett played 107 games for Carlton.

GWS traded Jono O’Rourke and their Round Three Selection (currently number 43) to Hawthorn for their Round One Selection (currently number 19) and their Round Two Selection (currently number 40). O'Rourke is another who requested a trade back to Melbourne. Injuries wrecked his 2013 season in which he played just one game. He managed a further eight in 2014.

Gold Coast acquired Sydney defender Nick Malceski as an unrestricted free agent. Sydney will receive a round two compensation selection. The AFL advised Sydney that they cannot trade that compensation selection. While the club expressed disappointment at losing Malceski, they acknowledged the offer Gold Coast made as being too good for him to pass up. Malceski played 176 games with the Swans and was a member of the 2012 Premiership side.

Hawthorn has acquired Melbourne's James Frawley as an unrestricted free agent. The Demons will receive a round one compensation selection but cannot trade that selection. Frawley, 26, debuted for the Demons in 2007 and played 139 games for Melbourne.

As previously reported, Carlton's Jarrad Waite and Bulldog Shaun Higgins both joined North Melbourne as free agents. Higgins was a restricted free agent. The Bulldogs elected not to match North's offer but will have a round two compensation selection. Carlton will not receive any compensation as Waite was an unrestricted free agent.

The AFL also held the father-son bidding with all clubs involved gaining their nominated selections with no rival clubs making successful counter bids. Each of the nominating clubs matched rival offers and all are now obligated to use those matching selections to draft the player.
