ADELAIDE
The Crows were keen on Jonathan Giles but did not get him. Cheney will bolster the back line, but they still need another tall defender and a bit of speed through the midfield. New Coach Phil Walsh said he is pleased with the club's acquisitions. Whether or not they can fill their needs with the lower draft selections they traded for remains to be seen.

Draft picks: 14, 35, 43, 59, 86, 104, 122.
Arrived: Kyle Cheney, Luke Lowden, picks 14, 35, 43, 59.
Departed: Ben Rutten (retired), Jason Porplyzia (retired), Jared Petrenko (delisted), Lewis Johnston (delisted), Shaun McKernan (delisted), Angus Graham (delisted), picks 10, 31, 50, 68.
Trade activity: Picks 31, 50 and 68 to Hawthorn in exchange for Kyle Cheney, Luke Lowden and picks 43 and 47. The Crows then swapped their picks 10 and 47 with Geelong's 14 and 35.

BRISBANE
The Lions were interested in Paddy Ryder but he would have been well down in the ruck pecking order with Matthew Leuenberger, Stefan Martin and Trent West ahead of him. The Lions definitely won on the midfield front with skilled premiership players Beams and Christiansen. Both are in their prime with plenty of years ahead of them. Losing ace defender Patfull was a blow but young Gardiner could step straight in.

Draft picks: 44 (Liam Dawson), 63 (Harris Andrews), 67, 81, 99 (Josh Clayton)
Arrived: Dayne Beams, Allen Christensen, pick No.67
Departed: Jonathan Brown (retired), Brent Moloney (retired), Ash McGrath (retired), Andrew Raines, James Polkinghorne, Jordan Lisle, Patrick Wearden, Sam Michael, Nick Hayes, Isaac Conway, Joel Patfull (GWS), Jack Crisp (Collingwood), pick No.5, pick No.25.
Trade activity: Joel Patfull to GWS for pick No.21; pick No.21 to Geelong for Allen Christensen; picks 5 and 25 and Jack Crisp to Collingwood for Dayne Beams and pick No.67.

CARLTON
The Blues wanted Bulldog utility Jason Tutt but were unsuccessful. He could still be secured in the preseason draft. They were also interested in Sydney's Tom Mitchell. The futures of out of contract players Kane Lucas, Brock McLean, Mitch Robinson and David Ellard remain in limbo. The acquisition of Jaksch will fill the void left by Waite's departure and gives the Blue some versatility with both him and Lachie Henderson able to play forward and defense. Whiley will boost the midfield and he can play a tagging role.

Draft picks: 19, 28, 61, 65, 79, 101, 119.
Arrived: Kristian Jaksch (GWS), Mark Whiley (GWS), Liam Jones (Western Bulldogs), pick No.19, pick No.61, pick No.79.

Trade activity: Jarrad Waite to North Melbourne (unrestricted free agent); Jeff Garlett and pick No. 83 to Melbourne for picks 61 and 79; pick No. 7 to GWS for Kristian Jaksch, Mark Whiley and pick No. 19; pick No. 46 to the Western Bulldogs for Liam Jones.

COLLINGWOOD
The Pies wanted at least one star player in exchange for Beams but were told the likes of Pearce Hanley, Dayne Zorko, Sam Mayes, Jack Redden and James Aish were off limits. They settled for Crisp. In Greenwood, Crisp and Varcoe, they seem to have found talent and experience to offset the loss of two more premiership players.

Draft picks: 5, 9, 30, 48, 85, 103, 121
Arrived: Jack Crisp, Levi Greenwood, Travis Varcoe, pick 5, pick 25 (on-traded to North Melbourne).
Departed: Dayne Beams, Heritier Lumumba (traded), Luke Ball, Ben Hudson, Quinten Lynch, Nick Maxwell (retired), Caolan Mooney, Marty Clarke, Peter Yagmoor (delisted), picks 25 and 67.

ESSENDON
The Bombers were interested in young Sun Daniel Gorringe but he turned down their offer and will remain with Gold Coast. The addition of Giles and Cooney as well as gaining a top twenty draft selection should serve them well.

Draft picks: 17, 20, 62, 71, 89, 107, 125.
Arrived: Jonathan Giles, Adam Cooney, James Gwilt, pick 17, pick 62.
Departed: Paddy Ryder, pick 53.
Trade activity: Paddy Ryder traded to Port Adelaide for pick No.17 and 37; pick No.37 on-traded to Western Bulldogs for Adam Cooney, pick 53 traded to GWS for Jonathan Giles and pick 62, James Gwilt (unrestricted free agent).

FREMANTLE
The Dockers were interested in both James Frawley and Levi Greenwood but are content to develop the talent they have. They retain several reasonable draft selections.

Draft picks: 13, 34, 54, 72, 90, 108, 126.
Departed: Kepler Bradley (retired), Scott Gumbleton (retired), Sam Menegola (delisted rookie), Michael Wood (delisted rookie).
Trade activity: did not trade

GEELONG
The Cats were keen on Frawley but he went to the Hawks. The Cats are confident that Clark has overcome his foot injury and mental health challenges (depression) and that the lesser spotlight of playing with Geelong will benefit him. Stanley, inconsistent at St Kilda, can play forward and back but his success or failure with the Cats remains the question. Losing Christensen and Varcoe was a blow but the Cats have been very successful at developing young talent and still have some reasonable draft selections.

Draft picks: 10, 47, 55, 60, 73, 91, 109 and 127
Arrived: Mitch Clark (Melbourne), Rhys Stanley (St Kilda), picks 10, 47 and 60
Departed: Allen Christensen (Brisbane Lions), Travis Varcoe (Collingwood), George Burbury (delisted), Jordan Schroder (delisted), Jesse Stringer (delisted), Jackson Sheringham (rookie delisted), Nick Bourke (rookie delisted), picks 14 and 35
Trade Activity: Mitch Clark from Melbourne in a three-way deal including Travis Varcoe to Collingwood and Magpies defender Heritier Lumumba to the Demons. Rhys Stanley and pick 60 from St Kilda for pick 21. Picks 10 and 47 from Adelaide for picks 14 and 35.

GOLD COAST
The Suns bowed out of the Frawley race early on but still have a reasonable backline with Steven May and Rory Thompson as well as the addition of Malceski. The experience of Hallahan in the midfield will help ease the pressure on Ablett, Swallow and O'Meara. The Suns retained their high draft picks.

Draft picks: 8, 15, 29, 66
Arrived: Nick Malceski, Mitch Hallahan
Departed: Nathan Bock (retired), Tom Murphy (retired), Karmichael Hunt (retired), Campbell Brown, Jackson Allen, Jack Hutchins, Leigh Osborne, Jeremy Taylor, Matthew Warnock, pick No.47, pick No.49
Trade activity: Nick Malceski (unrestricted free agent from Sydney Swans); picks 47 and 49 to Hawthorn for Mitch Hallahan.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
The Giants have had the first pick in the past three drafts, picking up Boyd, Lachie Whitfleld and Jonathon Patton and have only losing Boyd. The Giants tried to pry away the number one selection from St Kilda but to no avail. They still have three top ten picks and have bolstered their defense with Patfull and the midfield with Griffen.

Draft picks: 4, 6, 7, 23, 24, 80, 98, 116
Arrived: Pick No.6, pick No.23, Ryan Griffen, pick No.7, Joel Patfull.

HAWTHORN
Consecutive premierships is testament to the depth of talent at Hawthorn, but Mitchell and Hodge aren't getting any younger. O'Rourke has time on his side and Frawley adds to the defense.

Draft picks: 31, 49, 50, 68, 77, 95, 113 and 131.
Arrived: Jono O'Rourke (GWS), James Frawley (free agent), picks 31, 49, 50 and 68.
Departed: Mitch Hallahan (Gold Coast), Kyle Cheney (Adelaide), Luke Lowden (Adelaide), Jordan Kelly (delisted), Ben Ross (rookie delisted), Derick Wanganeen (rookie delisted), Brad Sewell (retired), picks 19, 40, 43, 47 and 59.Trade Activity Jono O'Rourke from Greater Western Sydney for pick 19. Mitch Hallahan to Gold Coast for picks 47 and 49. Kyle Cheney, Luke Lowden and picks 43, 47 and 59 to Adelaide for picks 31, 50 and 68.

MELBOURNE
Rumor had it that the Demons wanted Adelaide gun Patrick Dangerfield, but the Crows made it clear it was no dice. They were also floating the idea of trading Jack Trengrove but the stress fracture in his foot flared again recently and he remains with the Dees. They still have two top selections.

Draft picks: 2, 3, 40, 42 (Billy Stretch), 53, 83, 97, 115.
Arrived: Heritier Lumumba (Collingwood), Jeff Garlett (Carlton), Sam Frost, pick No.3 (free agency compensation, James Frawley), pick No.40, pick No.53, pick No.83.

Trade activity: Pick No.3 as compensation for James Frawley; Mitch Clark for Heritier Lumumba; pick No.23 for Sam Frost and selections 40 and 53; picks 61 and 79 for Jeff Garlett and selection 83.

NORTH MELBOURNE
Other than Waite and Higgins, the Roos were relatively quiet. Should Waite avoid injury and suspension, he could prove a handy partner to Petrie up forward. Higgins has had injury problems over the years as well but with more luck on that front, he will add to the midfield brigade.

Draft picks: 16, 25, 36, 56, 74, 92, 110 and 128
Arrived: Jarrad Waite (free agent), Shaun Higgins (free agent), pick 25.
Departed: Levi Greenwood (Collingwood). Yet to announce delistings.
Trade activity: Levi Greenwood to Collingwood for pick 25.

PORT ADELAIDE
Port was interested in Gold Coast's Dan Gorringe but the trade for Ryder quashed that deal. Port has an exciting young list and Ryder will be able to support Lobbe in the ruck and add to an already potent forward line.

Draft picks: 57, 75, 93, 111, 129
Arrived: Patrick Ryder.
Departed: Dom Cassisi (retired), Brent Renouf (delisted), Campbell Heath (delisted), Cam Hitchcock (delisted), picks 17 and 37.
Trade activity: Picks 17 and 37 to Essendon for Patrick Ryder.

RICHMOND
The Tigers expressed interest in Essendon's Jason Winderlich, who back-flipped on his retirement plans. He decided to remain a Bomber. They were also interested in Greenwood to add to their midfield depth. Did not lose or gain anything, but will now rely on wise drafting.

Draft picks: 12, 33, 52, 70, 88,
Departed: Todd Banfield, Ben Darrou, Aaron Edwards, Brad Helbig, Dan Jackson (retired), Jake King (retired), Brett O'Hanlon, Orren Stephenson, Cadeyn Williams
Did not trade.

ST KILDA
The Saints were another club to remain fairly quiet. It would have taken a lot - more than any other club was willing to let go - to give up the number one draft pick. Sydney forward Tim Membrey requested a trade to St Kilda for more playing opportunities but a deal could not be done. The Saints still have a chance to snare him in the preseason draft.

Draft picks: 1, 21, 22, 41, 78, 96, 114.
Arrived: Pick 21.
Departed: Rhys Stanley (traded), James Gwilt (free agency), Lenny Hayes (retired), Beau Maister (retired), Trent Dennis-Lane, Sam Dunell, Clint Jones (delisted), pick 60.
Trade Activity: Rhys Stanley and No.60 to Geelong for pick 21.

SYDNEY SWANS
The Swans will have to be very careful in 2015 and 2016 after being told by the AFL they will be barred from trading while their Cost Of Living Allowance is phased out. They are not happy with the decision and will certainly work hard to get the League to reverse the decision. They have the knack of developing from within and recruiting and drafting well. They will need all the savvy they can muster come draft day this year and for the next two years.

Draft picks: 18, 37, 38, 58, 76, 94, 112, 130.
Arrived: Pick No.37, pick No.39.
Departed: Shane Biggs, pick No.39, Nick Malceski.

WEST COAST
The Eagles were interested in Travis Varcoe and Nick Malceski but they went elsewhere. The Eagles need some midfield depth, speed, skill and size and will look to the draft.

Draft picks: 11, 32, 51, 69, 87, 105, 123.
Arrived: Alec Waterman (father/son selection via final pick in the NAB AFL Draft, currently 123).
Departed: Dean Cox (retired), Darren Glass (retired), Jacob Brennan (delisted), Ashley Smith (delisted).

WESTERN BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs pulled off the recruiting coup of the club's history by snaring key forward prodigy Tom Boyd. Boyd, 19, did not come cheap with a reputed $1 million a year. The club has been crying out for a tall key forward since the retirement of Chris Grant in 2007. Hall filled the spot briefly, but was no long term solution given his age. Now they may have just found the answer in young gun Boyd.

The Dogs improved their draft position by securing second and third round selections for the loss of Griffen and Cooney. Biggs adds poise, run and excellent kicking skills in defense. Zaine Cordy is a talented and versatile defender. The Dogs made an offer for Greenwood but missed out as they also did on Kangaroo Kiernan Harper who could still be snared as a delisted free agent.

Draft picks: 26, 27, 39, 45, 46, 82, 100 and 118.
Arrived: Tom Boyd, Shane Biggs, Zaine Cordy (father-son), picks 39 and 46
Departed: Ryan Griffen, Adam Cooney, Liam Jones (traded) Shaun Higgins (free agency) Daniel Giansiracusa, Tom Williams (retired) Brett Goodes, Tom Young, Christian Howard (delisted), picks 6, 37 and 64.
