An emphatic 74 point victory has put West Coasts Premiership plans back on track, systematically dismantling the signature running game of the fairytale Western Bulldogs in the first Semi Final on Saturday night at Subiaco Oval. The heartache of last week's 1-point loss to Sydney has been converted into a sense of optimism, with the Eagles now poised to battle against the Adelaide Crows in the Preliminary Final for the second consecutive year. West Coast won the encounter last year by 16 points at Subiaco -- this time around they must travel to AAMI Stadium to earn a spot in the 2006 Grand Final.

It has been 12 years in the making, but Fremantle has at last achieved Finals success, overcoming a feisty Melbourne side by 28 points in the First Elimination Final at Subiaco. Their success on a balmy Friday night was the equivalent of reaching the summit for their season 2006 aspirations -- Coach Chris Connolly and the Fremantle Football Club's goal of “making and winning a Final” .
The victory is reward for players such as Shaun McManus and Shane Parker who have been with the club since its AFL debut in 1995. Their only Finals appearance before 2006 came in 2003 where they finished fifth,

The Swans have taken a decisive next step in their bid to claim their second consecutive Premiership. A one point thriller has seen Sydney beat West Coast in what has been hailed as one of the greatest Finals in recent years. Syndey earned themselves a home Preliminary Final and are now just one win away from another crack at the coveted trophy.
An enthralling battle took place between two quality teams that left nothing on the field, the lead changing 7 times from the last 7 goals before O’Loughlin was able to put the winning goal on the board in the dying minute of the game. In an era which is producing one of the most memorable rivalries for the ages, this match was a showcase for why the Swans and West Coast have joined the likes of the Brisbane Lions as the dominant teams of the 2000's.

So we have....
- 4 interstate teams in the top 4
- 4 Melbourne teams in the bottom 4
- The same 2 teams in the top 2 as last year, only reversed
- No Melbourne finals in weeks 2 or 3, meaning the 2 Melbourne teams that win in week 1 must travel and win twice in a row to make the GF.
1. West Coast has won 17 games, exactly the same as last year. Dangerous. They play against Sydney in the first final. The last 3 games these clubs have played, the highest score has been 68 points, and no teams has won by more than 4 points. If anyone can knock off West Coast, its Sydney. read more »

Fremantle has silenced its critics in 2006 by finishing third on the ladder, breezing past Port Adelaide by 79 points in their final match of the 2006 home and away season.
Fremantle has now earned a double change by claiming a spot in the Top Four, and will fly to AAMI stadium next week to do battle with the Adelaide Crows for a place in the Preliminary Final. A club that counted just 6 wins after 13 games has now won its last 9 games on the trot to be the form team going into the Finals. They will now appear in the Finals for only second time in their 12 year history as an AFL club.

Freo Win Biggest Derby Of All
by Tim Stone, reporting for the AFANA @ Subiaco Oval, Perth.
Before the bouncedown of the Round 21 derby between West Coast and Fremantle, the Dockers were the younger colt in a 2 horse town. As the final sounded, Fremantle had not only earned the respect of West Coast, but the attention of the entire AFL community.
Fremantle humbled the top of the table and Premiership favourites in West Coast by an astonishing 57 points only one game away from finals, and in doing so has broken all kinds of club and derby records.

West Coast Finalise Top 2
by Tim Stone, reporting for the AFANA @ Subiaco, WA.
Simply too classy, West Coast have accounted for the Kangaroos by a modest 26 points at a sunny Subiaco on Saturday, and with it have all but secured a home final in 2006. The undeniable turn in form for the West Australian side ensured they finished off a game they were expected to win, against a spirited Kangaroos outfit, 14.23 (107) to 12.9 (81).
With only 3 games remaining to close out the season, the Eagles are 3 games clear of the next side, meaning they would have to drop all of its remaining games to lose a top 2 spot, and with it a home final. Watching West Coast dominate proceedings in recent weeks,

West Coast Stun The Crows
by Tim Stone, reporting for the AFANA @ Subiaco, WA.
A game that saw West Coast go in as underdogs at home for the first time in 2 years, has had bookies reshaping the odds for the premiership as the Eagles blitzed the flag's favourites and ladder leaders in Adelaide by an astounding 82 points at Subiaco Oval. A game that most supporters in the West had already conceded, turned out to be anything but a write off as West Coast produced the game of the season in the top of the table clash in round 17.

Fremantle tied its longest ever winning streak in their 12 year history in the AFL, as they handed a 53 point hiding to a lacklustre Hawthorn side in Round 18. The win, giving Fremantle its 5th straight victory, equalled its previous best in season 2003 that bore them their only ever finals appearance where they finished 5th.
Hawthorn's promising start to the season continues to spiral out of control,

Dockers Modest Win Keeps Finals Fire Flickering
By Tim Stone, AFANA Reporter in Perth read more »
Fremantle have kept their 2006 campaign alive with a 37 point victory over the cellar dwellers in Essendon in front 34,000 supporters on a Friday night at Subi. A less than convincing win would be the best way to describe Fremantles answer to their critics. Blundered opportunities from the Dons marred what was realistically a very even contest.
