Any ideas on contacting Local Sports Editors and writers in the USA?
Stragedies, do's and don'ts?
I could be wrong but with Grand Finals coming up they would see the best and I'm sure many of the larger city editors probably have access to Setanta and other sports channels.
Should we send them a copy of a game along with the one page rules and the more detailed rules? Would there be copywrite problems if we sent them a copied version as private individuals?
Of course, if things already look secure with Setanta playing the games next year, we could wait on this till next year. read more »

The Cats completed their brilliant season with a massive win in the big one, thoroughly deserved. A good article by Jake Niall in The Age last week detailed the Catters’ progress to this point since 1999, when the final remnants of the teams who’d lost four Grand Finals between 1989 and 1995 were discarded and Mark Thompson replaced the goose Gary Ayres as coach. Geelong were heavily in debt at the time read more »

At Subiaco:
West Coast 0.4 5.5 8.9 10.12.72 10.14.74 after extra time
Collingwood 1.5 4.8 7.11 10.12.72 13.15.93 after extra time
The Pies certainly know how to compete. Mick Malthouse knows how to coach too, rotating his midfielders to eke out every drop of endurance in this marathon. The Poise kept up the intensity, kept up the pressure all night to overhaul the Wiggles in extra time, scores being tied on the final siren. A great win. Collywood see themselves as Geelong’s biggest threat and take a decent chance into the game next Friday. It’ll be an HUGE game, for sure. The Weegs join the small, unhappy band of sides to go out in straight sets. The injury excuse is easy to reach for, as expected Chris Judd (groin and ankle injuries) was left out here, joining Ben Cousins (hamstring) and the already absent Dan Kerr. Just this morning, Judd’s announced he’s leaving the Weegles and returning to Vic for “family reasons”. Adds some interest to the trade period. To cap it off, recalled Ashley Hansen twanged his hamstring barely 10 minutes into the first quarter. Worsfold also made a possibly fatal tactical error, benching Darren Glass late in the third term and watching the previously silent Anthony Rocca boot 2 goals in as many minutes. The Weegs are still a very good side when full-strength. Some saw their troubles this season as some sort of karma following the hubris of the off-season. Beau Waters (groin) was another absentee here, Hansen, Chad Fletcher and junior midfielder Jamie McNamara were the trio called up. The Pies were forced into one late change, Josh Fraser (back tightness) replaced by Chris Bryan. read more »

A bit of news. Cat man Joel Selwood won the Rising Star Award last week, with 44 of a maximum possible 45 votes. Magpoi Scott Pendlebury was a close second (37) with a long gap back to Demon Nathan Jones. Melbourne appointed recent Fremantle coach Chris Connolly as their football manager. Blue midfielder Andrew Carrazzo won the John Nicholls Medal as their best player of 2007, the Blues also delisted five players last week including 2004 best-and-fairest David Teague and ruckman Dylan McLaren.
And Bommer supporter Peter Coatman pointed out some errors read more »

At Docklands:
Collingwood 2.0 6.3 9.6 11.9.75
Adelaide 5.3 6.5 10.8 14.10.96
Credit to the Camrys, having to win their last three games to reach the finals, they did. The hopes of the Stainers and Lyin’s were ended in the process. The Camry midfield was too good for their creaky, criticized Poi counterparts, the croweaters were also determined this not be retiring legend Mark Ricciuto’s last game, apparently. Ricciuto’s 311th appearance equalled Ben Hart’s club record, it’ll go next week. read more »

Well footy fans and tipsters another season of home and away games comes to a close on Sunday night. I suppose at the start of the season the AFL, when setting the fixtures, thought there might be some interest in a Carlton against Melbourne match at the ‘G’ as the last game of the season but alas, they got that wrong. Here’s a game during which the Carlton supporters will be barracking for the Demons, there won’t be a single fight or altercation between the fans as they will have a common bond and rumour has it that the umpires have all nominated to do this game on the basis that each and every one of their decision will be applauded, except, of course, if there is a free kick given to the Blues in front of goal, but as that has been a rare occurrence during the year anyway don’t expect it to change for this match!! read more »

Jet-lag, work, the conspiracy of it. Better late than never, I s’pose.
At Docklands:
St. Kilda 5.5 9.8 10.9 14.14.98
West Coast 1.1 6.4 11.9 16.10.106
Big result as the Weegs confirmed a top-four finish and potential home final in week one (depending on what Port do next week) while the Stainers slid out of the eight, their fate is now out of their hands. They need Collywood to beat the Camrys tomorrow night or they’re done. The Weegs came in as outsiders here, read more »

The game of tipping is measured in points. An absolute hopeless effort last week with 3 correct and no doubt those that follow my previews religiously (are there any of you actually out there?) would have been cursing me apart from the Collingwood versus Melbourne game which I tipped against the Pies for psychological reasons. Really though, read more »
