Begins with Round 19 for USA and Canada
For the first time since 1997, the Australian Football League will be on an ESPN network in North America. Following the demise of the sport on Setanta, the AFL has struck a deal for live coverage on ESPN360, limited coverage on ESPN2, and for Canada, on TSN and TSN2. AFANA worked closely read more »
Major changes have been announced to the AFL weekly highlights programs and online coverage by the AFL. Details were made available to AFANA in the past 24 hours. (There are no other changes we are aware of besides what is reported here.) The traditional AFL highlights programs have been replaced by a FOX Sports produced program called "AFL Winners" and the the online service previously provided by Aussie Sport TV (ASTV) has been replaced by LiveAFL.TV. The new service is supposed to support platforms other than the Windows based PC's including Apple Mac's. (We have not tested this as yet but there are at least two reports that it does work on Macs.)

The British newspaper the Guardian reported today that Setanta failed to make a scheduled progress payment to the Scottish Premier League (SPL). (See our earlier reports on Setanta's financial problems here.) It's not clear what impact this will have to on-going operations including those in the USA and Canada or for AFL coverage. At this time, programming seems to be continuing on all of their networks and AFL coverage does not appear to be affected. However, since this failure read more »
After years of frustration, things are about to get a lot better
for viewers of AFL video online beginning July 3rd. A new service called Aussie Sport TV is coming online and will offer AFL video in flash format (similar to YouTube and other sites). This will replace the existing video offerings of Telstra's Bigpond service, including for afl.com.au subscribers. Even better, some of that video will be available here on AFANA.com. We will have more details on AFANA's part of this very shortly. Please note: the service will not be live until July 3rd. If you are not already a subscriber to afl.com.au you can subscribe to this new service at this link: Aussie Sport TV. (Please use this link only as subscriptions through this link generate commissions for AFANA!). If you already are a subscriber to afl.com.au, you are subscribed to this new service automatically at no additional charge! Today AFL web site subscribers may have received the following notice: read more »
Aussie Sport TV carries all AFL matches in full on a promised 12-24 hour delay (experience suggests it can be much longer) all season. They are now offering prior subscribers the chance to renew at a discount. (For full TV Info see our TV Info page!) The offer states the following:
"The 2010 Season is here, with the NAB Cup well underway we wanted to remind you of all the 100% official AFL video available throughout the season for subscribers to Aussie Sport TV:
• The latest full match replays read more »
The people over at Aussie Sport TV (aka Perform Group) have issued their offer for live AFL match coverage via the web in 2010 under their Omnisport.tv service. For those fans who want to see a match not shown by ESPN360 / ESPN3 / TSN.ca or cannot access those services, this is an option you may consider. AFANA makes no guarantees as to how well it will work for you and you must decide what live footy is worth to you. It appears this is similar to the offer last year with perhaps more complete coverage of all matches. Here is the offer: read more »
Here are some answers to questions and comments we get frequently here at AFANA.
If you have a question please let us know by contacting us and if your question seems relevant to others, we may add it here. This information in this FAQ has not been fully updated in a long time. Some old questions are kept for reference purposes.
Contents:
1. I can't find the network or the times Aussie Rules is on the TV!
2. We got no warning that footy was leaving Fox!
3. Will Setanta show more than one live game per week?
4. There are too many commercials on Setanta and all they do is promote their own programs. They should show interviews and other halftime coverage, too. read more »

Aussie Sport TV (ASTV) has a one month offer for the AFL finals. AFANA is making this offer known to fans since we understand that for some fans, this may be the only way to see any of the AFL finals. (We do not recommend this over options such as ESPN360 and fans should be aware that we have had reports that matches are not available in the time frame promised and non-Windows PC's may not work reliably with the service.)
The offer is below; click on the link to subscribe and choose the one month option:
The AFL quietly announced with a post on the AFL website (and a short note to AFANA) that for Round 17 the AFL website will have free streaming of TV coverage to the USA and Canada this weekend. The AFL also added a banner on the AFL home page about this. The note to AFANA said:
"Please note that afl.com.au will stream all eight matches live into the UK, Ireland, USA and Canada over the course of Round 17." read more »
