One could be forgiven for being certain that Didak had worn the black and white for the final time after he was suspended by the club for a drink driving accident and his subsequent lies to the football club in August. read more »
Will history repeat itself?
The Hawks and Cats lined up against each other in Round 17 this year. By midseason, both had proved themselves as two of the most dominant teams in the competition. Prior to this game, the Cats had lost just once to Collingwood in Round Nine while Hawthorn had only three losses against the Bulldogs in Round 10, the Kangaroos in Round 13 and the previous week against St. Kilda. Geelong was sitting in first place and the Hawks were third behind the Bulldogs. By midseason, this was one of the most anticipated games of the year. read more »
Who's in, who's out...and other matters...
All clubs have over 30 players on their lists and select whomever they feel will be the best 22 for any given game. In that respect, the Grand Final is no different, which means some players who may have impressed during the season are going to miss out, no matter what contributions they made during the season. It is tough call for the selection panel of a club to tell a player who has served the team well during the year that he has to miss out on the biggest game of the year. According to Geelong defender and team captain Tom Harley, he and his teammates who will be selected for the game, plan to rally around and console those who miss out. read more »

The Swans and Bulldogs seemed evenly matched early in the game and the Swans could have raced out to a handy lead if not for some poor shooting for goal early in the first term. Formula for a new team
After extensive and exhaustive planning, meetings with AFL clubs and study of club list management processes. the AFL has approved proposed draft and recruiting concessions for the new Gold Coast team. The plan will also allow for compensation over a period of several years to the existing 16 clubs for the potential loss of players to the new club. read more »

Matthews gives up coaching Brisbane, Voss quickly appointed
In a shock announcement last Monday, Leigh Matthews announced his retirement as Brisbane coach. Matthews took over as coach of the Lions in 1999 and coached the team in 237 games, including their three premierships 2001-2003. Matthews, in making the announcement said it was the right time for him step aside. Matthews will remain with the club to assist with the post-season review and list management.
