Sydney's Adam Goodes, who missed Round 4 due to suspension, played his 304th game in Round 5. This takes him past former champion and teammate Michael O'Loughlin. The Sydney pair is behind former Adelaide champion Andrew McLeod (340 games) for most games played by an indigenous player.  read more »

Dockers Declaw Lions

Two weeks ago at Patersons Stadium, the Fremantle Dockers played their first game against Geelong as if they were Grand Final material. In Round 3 against the Brisbane Lions they looked second rate. First blood went to the Lions with Todd Banfield awarded a free kick after Stephen Hill bamboozled himself and ran too far with the football. Brisbane was all over the more fancied home side which was hesitant in its disposals and not kicking truly when in possession of the ball. Both teams had a full court press on with their zones and the game resembled a chess match as each side tried to move the ball forward. Unfortunately it was not a Boris Spassky-Bobby Fisher level game but more like their unprepared understudies stepping into the spotlight.  read more »

Eagles Secure Fourth Against Lions

Brisbane has a good record at the Gabba and has not lost an encounter against the West Coast Eagles at its home ground in five years. Conditions were wet and slippery after six hours of torrential rain but the Eagles had a lot at stake, fighting for fourth position on the Ladder to secure a home Final. The opening of the game proved that the Lions were not going to make it easy for them.  read more »

Dockers Hunt Down Lions

Fremantle kept its Finals' hopes intact with a convincing win over the Brisbane Lions at Patersons Stadium in Round 14. The Dockers were without Michael Barlow who pulled up sore after his comeback game last week, but Alex Silvagni was back to add some muscle in defense. Brisbane had been doing well since the return of bruising full forward and captain Jonathon Brown, but had their worries without classy midfielder Drew Banfield in the team.  read more »

Brisbane Sacks Two

Shortly before the NAB Cup began, promising small forward Albert Proud had his contract with Brisbane terminated. The club stated he had failed to meet the behavioral standards of an AFL player. Proud, who was arrested for striking a police officer last month, was suspended by the club at the start of 2010 for another off field incident. After the latest incident, he was suspended indefinitely and then told that his contract was terminated.  read more »

Former Brisbane premiership player and Bulldog Jason Akermanis has signed on to play for Glenorchy in the Tasmanian Football League. In his own inimitable style, Akermanis said he wants to add more of an entertainment factor to the league.  read more »

Magpie Prestigiacomo Retires

Veteran Collingwood defender Simon Prestigiacomo announced his retirement in early November after 15 years and 233 games. He was a first round draft selection in 1995, making his debut in 1996 and developing into an excellent defender with discipline, reliability and courage.  read more »

Pies Get Easy Ride In 2011 Schedule

Collingwood's chances of winning consecutive Premierships have been boosted by the 2011 AFL schedule. The 2010 Premiers have been given 18 games in Melbourne next year, with 14 at the MCG, and do not travel outside Victoria until Round 14.  read more »
