NAB Cup Sub Rule Out

Between the end of the NAB Cup series and the start of Round One on March 24, the AFL held the season launch in Sydney. In between the festivities, League officials met with club captains and coaches to discuss the new rules which were tried out in the preseason. One rule which was high on the agenda was the two substitute-two interchange player rule.  read more »

AFL Steps Up to Aid Bushfire Victims

The AFL has rescheduled a NAB Cup clash between the Western Bulldogs and Essendon from Darwin to Melbourne on Friday February 13, to raise funds for communities devastated by this month's Victorian bushfires. 

AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou said the league, the players and the 16 clubs wanted to work together to raise funds and show their support for the communities affected by the fires and the emergency service workers and volunteers who have risked their lives to fight the fires or provide support. He said the match was moved to Melbourne after discussions with the Victorian State Government.  read more »

The NAB Cup Chase Is Off and Running

The Eagles chose to play many of their rookies and players selected in the recent draft while the Magpies went with experience. The result showed on the scoreboard. Experienced Eagle duo Kerr and Cox started on the bench with the Eagle youngsters thrown into the proverbial deep end. The Eagles started well enough with Staker running down Heath Shaw and then being awarded a 50-meter penalty (55 yards) for the opening goal. The Magpies then took control through the midfield and put plenty of pressure on the young Eagles to force turnovers.  read more »

Awards, NAB Rules, Tribunal Changes, Injury Updates

The league is set to hold their annual AGM in March, at which time they will present 10 past and present players with AFL life memberships.The announcement was made recently with seven current players reaching the required 300 games. They are Adelaide's Tyson Edwards, North Melbourne's Brent Harvey, Sydney's Michael O'Loughlin, Richmond's Matthew Richardson, Melbourne's Adem Yze and senior field umpires Shane McInerney and Stephen McBurney.  read more »

The Western Bulldogs outlasted a spirited Kangaroos outfit at TIO stadium in Darwin on Friday night. In a low scoring game where the back lines of both teams held firm, the Bulldogs were able to put the score on the board and remained in front for the entire game.  read more »
