Tiger Bachar Houli, a devout Muslim and an AFL multicultural ambassador, brought the need for prayer rooms to the AFL. He believes that a lack of proper prayer areas at AFL grounds was keeping many Muslims, who are obligated to pray five times a day, from attending games. Those who do attend had to carry out these obligations in stairwells, rest rooms and parking lots - any place they could find where they could be relatively alone. The AFL has now introduced prayer rooms at the MCG, Etihad and ANZ Stadium in Sydney. The League is planning on doing the same at all AFL grounds. The rooms will be multi-faith in keeping with the League's cultural diversity policy. read more »
Former Melbourne star Jim Stynes passed away several weeks ago after losing a long battle with cancer. His ashes were taken to Ireland and scattered in a favorite place by his family. read more »
Former Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos, whose wife is American, was in California last summer. While there, he conducted a footy clinic. Among the attendees was Alex Starling, a talented college basketball player who has also played American football. In August, Starling spent three weeks in Australia for more testing and impressed Sydney Coach John Longmire, development manager Stuart Maxfield and head of player personnel Kinnear Beatson. So impressed is the club that it has signed Starling under the AFL's International Scholarship plan. read more »

The Western Sydney Giants have signed former Carlton fullback Stephen Silvagni as the club's list manager. Silvagni will play a key role in putting together the team list ahead of their 2012 entry into the AFL. Silvagni has been an assistant coach with St. Kilda for the past four seasons. read more »
Greater Western Sydney club has further expanded its brand making a 10 year agreement with the ACT. The new deal will see the team play 30 season and ten pre-season games in Canberra over the next ten years. read more »
A new second-tier league in 2011 will combine the Northern Territory, NSW, the ACT and Queensland. The North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) will consist of two conferences. read more »
With the pool of available talent being stretched at draft time due to the introduction of the Gold Coast and Western Sydney teams, the AFL has eliminated the age restriction for rookie-listed players. At present, only one player over the age of 23 is allowed to be rookie-drafted. read more »
