Carlton forward Simon Wiggins has decided to retire after failing to play any senior games in 2010. Wiggins, who played alongside Coach Brett Ratten, debuted in 2001 and has played 116 games for the Blues.  read more »

Retirees Move To Coaching

Docker Des Headland has retired, citing chronic knee problems as the reason. Headland played in the Semi-Final loss against Geelong last week, his first game since Round Four when he injured his right knee.  read more »

Three More Call it A Day

Umpire Scott McLaren has announced his retirement from AFL ranks. McLaren began his AFL career in 1994 and, through Round 22, has umpired in 364 games. He will finish his career in fourth place on the all-time League umpiring list.  read more »

Adelaide champion Andrew McLeod announced his immediate retirement due to his inability to overcome a knee injury. McLeod, 34, would like to have played a farewell game in the final round but admitted that his knee would not withstand the stress.  read more »

Demon Skipper Bows Out

Demon captain James McDonald has announced that he will retire after Melbourne's Round 22 game. It was a mutual decision reached between McDonald, Coach Dean Bailey and club president Jim Stynes. McDonald said he felt he could have gone on for another season but that he was comfortable with the club's decision to give younger players more game time.  read more »

Ben Cousins Ends Career

Due to rampant speculation in the previous 24 hours, it came as no surprise when Ben Cousins announced that he would retire at the end of the season. He and Richmond Coach Damien Hardwick fronted a packed press conference on August 17. Cousins had approached club officials the week before but they told him to take another week to think about it.  read more »

Playfair and Carr Hang Up Boots

Sydney's Henry Playfair announced his immediate retirement ahead of Round 16 due to a serious back injury. He was initially injured in Round 14. After consulting club medical staff, the injury plagued star decided he could not face another lengthy round of rehab.  read more »
