Pies Defy Hawks In Thriller

A disappointed Hawthorn side will rue the impact of poor kicking on goal and a lack of desperation in the final quarter against Collingwood in the first Preliminary Final. The Hawks had been on top of the much-fancied Minor Premiers for most of the first three quarters but are now doomed to wonder what might have been as the more determined Pies’ outfit looks forward to a Grand Final against Geelong next Saturday.  read more »

Collingwood Challenged

Collingwood and West Coast have played each other in three Finals over recent years. Each game has been a closely fought affair, including one draw. This was Allan Didak’s 200th game and while most were expecting the Pies to win, the encounter didn’t go entirely to plan.  read more »

ANZAC Heroes Honored

Dawn’s early light emerged slowly through the cold damp mist which hung low and heavy over Melbourne, in a somber tribute to that April morning in 1915 when the ANZACS landed on the desolate shores of Gallipoli. The haunting refrain of the "Last Post" echoed through every Australian suburb, as the morning ceremonies were conducted to honor and remember the fallen.  read more »

Australia Reclaims International Title

After losing the last series in 2008, Australia has reclaimed bragging rights over Ireland with a hard-fought three point win in the second game. Ireland played a more aggressive attacking game this time round, laying a number of tackles but the Australians held firm even when under siege in the final term.  read more »

Aussies Down Irish

Ireland got off to a slow start and, according to their coach, opted to kick the ball more than use their hands. Australian players ran in groups to stymie the Irish. Small forwards Eddie Betts and Todd Banfield applied plenty of defensive pressure while veteran Dustin Fletcher repelled a number of Irish attacks to help put the game in Australia's keeping.  read more »

Teams Selected For Grand Final Replay

Both Collingwood and St Kilda have made minimal changes to the teams which will line up for the Grand Final replay. One good news story is Saint Ben McEvoy, who played 18 games this season as a back up ruckman to Michael Gardiner.  read more »

Pies Smash Cats In Preliminary Final

During the week preceding the Preliminary Final, Mark Thompson uncharacteristically focused on Collingwood in a rare display of overt mind games. Mick Malthouse let the Collingwood players do the talking in the media to refute claims of 'hating' Geelong. Before the game, Cats' fans were nervous while Pies' fans were excited in a fearful sort of way.  read more »
