Oh, the woes of an NAB Tipster.  Round 17, five more rounds to go (18, 19, 20, 21, & 22) and I'm three points behind the lead tipster in two competitions (two different people).  Do I play it straight and pick who I think will win, or lean forward in the saddle and try to pick an upset or two?  I'm going to play it straight.

The Friday Night Game:  First, I must say, I love the Friday Night announcing crew.  Dennis always seems to have a 'bon mot' or two in the second half.  This week they are blessed with the premier game of the week.  Hawthorn v Geelong.  After I sc**wed up last weeks picks, I'm going with the Cats to stay well ahead of the pack this week.  However, I believe the Hawk's defeat last week is because they were looking forward to this week's contest, and it may pay off.  Geelong by 4.

Saturday Games:

Essendon  v Collingwood:  This is a rematch of the ANZAC Day contest (Round 5) where Collingwood won by 70+ points (and Paul Medhurst won the ANZAC Medal).  That was truly an inspiring broadcast this year.  The boys from Essendon were eaten (and beaten) by the Tigers last week and Scott Lucas (love him) hurt himself in practice this week and may not play (he missed the ANZAC Day game, too).  I think the Magpies will peck at the remains this week.  I'm going with Collingwood.

West Coast v St. Kilda:  I still have no confidence in the Eagles, plus it looks as though the Saints have returned to good form and have no significant injuries.  I went with the Saints.

Richmond v Brisbane Lions:  (And what other team does Brisbane have?)  The Tigers really surprised me last week.  Good on 'em!  (My son's in-laws are Tiger fans.) However, Leigh's team is pretty healthy and I'm sticking with the Lions to take the Tigers in a real feline frenzy.  Lions to win in Melbourne.

Sydney Swans v Adelaide Crows:  The injury list for the Crows goes on and on.  I always feel the length of the injury list tells one something about the spirit of the team.  Coach Craig still has a challenge.  I think the Swans will win at home, even though the Swans have a lot of injured players also.

Sunday Games:

Port Adelaide v Fremantle:  Hey, these two teams represent half of my last weeks correct picks. My initial reaction is to go with a tie. However, with another sip of wine (white), I decided to go with the home team, Da Power.  I really struggled with this tip.  The Dockers can, and may, do the job.  However, I'm going with the Power.

Melbourne v North Melbourne:  The Melbourne club had another change in upper management this week when they sacked Paul McNamee (CEO for the Demons) after 106 days at the helm.  This turmoil will be a distraction to the club although the Dee's coach is holding a steady course.  Clearly the Kangaroos to win this one.  (Famous last words.)

Western Bulldogs v Carlton:  Although the Blues have been among my favorite teams this year with their comebacks, competitiveness, and courageous efforts, I believe the Dogie faithful will cry "Woof, Woof" after more goals than the Blues  will give their fans a reason to cheer.  The Bulldogs over the Blues.

Note, I picked more away teams than home teams this week (5-3).  Perhaps I should go 7-1  with the Away teams (going with Fremantle and the Blues) for a better set of tips since last week seemed to be the Home team week to win.

Well, it being 8:00am, Friday morning, Melbourne time and only 13 or so hours before the first bounce of the weekend, I must post this and wait until Sunday evening, Melbourne time, to find out.
