Hayden Kennedy To Step Down

AFL Umpire Head Coach Hayden Kennedy has advised the AFL that he will be stepping down from that role after the conclusion of Round 10. Kennedy, a teacher by profession, began umpiring AFL games in 1988 and went on to officiate in 495 games, including five Grand Finals. He retired after Round 17, 2011 as the record holder for most games umpired. That record was broken by Shane McInerney (502) games) before he retired at the end of 2019. Kennedy would easily have surpassed 502 games had it not been for a bout of plantar fasciitis (inflammation of tissue in the foot) several seasons before he retired.

Rischitelli reflected on his time in the game, “I’ve loved every moment ...it's been an incredible journey ... General manager Jon Haines said, “Michael has been a fantastic leader for our young football club,

Siren Solution For Umpires

In 2006, St Kilda hosted Fremantle in Tasmania. The game was close with the Dockers leading by a point in the dying seconds of the game. The siren sounded but the umpires failed to hear it and the Saints proceeded to kick a point. Several Dockers did hear the siren and tried to alert the umpires. The game ended in a tie and Fremantle lodged a formal protest with the AFL. The subsequent investigation resulted in the AFL reversing the match day score and awarding the Dockers a one point victory.

Demons Character Win

After a nightmare week in the media spotlight, beleaguered Richmond Tigers coach Terry Wallace found no salvation in Sunday's must win game against the Melbourne Demons. Week-long headlines prophesying Wallace's demise should Richmond fail to produce a winning performance were read by all it seems except the Melbourne football team. At last the starved Demons have something to build upon for the future.
