David Woodley reporting for AFANA from Patersons Stadium, Subiaco

Led by Adam Selwood, the West Coast Eagles made it into the semi-final of the NAB Cup preseason competition by defeating the Gold Coast Suns at Patersons Stadium in Perth. The Eagles were eventually too strong for the Gold Coast who showed promise of better things to come. Eagles coach John Worsfold would be a happy man at this stage of the season after last year's disastrous bottom of the ladder finish. Although challenged at times by the Gold Coast, the Eagles looked reasonably comfortable for most of the game and held on to run out winners by 37 points.
