Geelong outlasted the Fremantle Dockers at Patersons Stadium in Round 2 to come away with an 11 point win. The Dockers were the architects of their own defeat, kicking themselves out of the game with only three goals 9 points after half time. Fremantle's inaccuracy in front of goal cost them dearly and some kicking practice at training will surely be on coach Mark Harvey's agenda.
Geelong had star players Joel Selwood and Cameron Moody missing but the inclusion of Daniel Menzel proved a master stroke. The youngster was a livewire in the forward line kicking three goals, one of which was a brilliant banana kick in front of the Dockers' cheer squad. Menzel will figure highly for selection in Geelong's next game against Port Adelaide. The Dockers must now regroup and focus on their Round 3 game against Adelaide in Adelaide.
In a highlight for the Dockers, captain Matthew Pavlich equalled Shane Parker's club record for the highest number of games played (238). He will break the record next week against Adelaide, his home town. Geelong star Paul Chapman also reached a milestone in this round, playing his 200th game.
