by Lisa Albergo reporting for AFANA from Chicago

Shortly after Round 23 concluded, the Swans announced that Lance Franklin was suffering from, and being treated for, an undisclosed mental health issue.

It was also reported that Franklin had suffered a minor epileptic seizure at a cafe on the Friday morning before Sydney's match against Gold Coast. He was taken to a hospital, treated and released. Although hospital doctors recommended he not play that weekend, Sydney's medical staff cleared him to play.

Franklin had a poor game against the Suns and was subsequently ruled out of Sydney's Qualifying Final match against Fremantle. Football manager Tom Harley said the club's first priority is Franklin's well-being. The club also issued a statement that Franklin's mild epilepsy is not related to the mental health issue he is dealing with.

The Swans traveled to Perth to face Fremantle not only without Franklin, but also Kieran Jack and Luke Parker, both injured.
