AFL Weekly Review Round 19 2007

by Tim Murphy

At the MCG:

Richmond     6.4   11.4   15.5     18.8.116
Collingwood  3.3    9.8   12.10   14.12.96

I gotta come to the other side of the world for the Tiges to win? The Pies limped into the finals last year, got thumped and eliminated by the Bullies and history is beginning to repeat. The Tiggers began with regular defender Graham Polak and flanker Brett Deledio in the forward-line and both men bagged two first-quarter goals - Polak the first two of the game - in a rapid Toiger start. The Pies improved in the second and third terms but the accurate Tiges kept scoring goals. Collywood grabbed the lead early in the third term, a goal from Dale Thomas featuring - he was about their best player in a tired, half-pace midfield. The Tiges did enough the stay 2 goals ahead at the final change and then booted the first three sausages of the final stanza to go 32 points up - they hung on. Deledio finished with 5 goals, Nathan Foley, Joel Bowden (on Rocca), Jake King, Daniel Jackson, Shane Tuck and Chris Newman all played well for the Tiges. Matty Richardson kicked 2 goals. Better Pies included Tarkyn Lockyer, Scott Burns, Dale Thomas and Rhyce Shaw. Rocca and Paul Medhurst kicked 3 goals each. The Pies have Melbourne next week, who beat 'em earlier in the year. And it's Neitz's 300th.

Freo Still Alive After Bomber Flogging

Scott Lockhart reporting for AFANA from Subiaco Oval, Perth.

Fremantle’s charge towards the finals is gaining momentum after their 63 point annihilation of fellow finals contender Essendon at Subiaco Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The win leaves Fremantle just half a game outside the top eight with three matches remaining. Essendon, who would have been inside the eight if they had beaten Fremantle, will now struggle to make September action having lost five of their past six matches to sit in 13th position.

AFL Weekly Preview Round 19 2007

PREVIEW ROUND 19

(Last week 5 from 8 total 88 from 144 = 61.1%)

The coaching merry go round featured strongly all week in AFL news (particularly when it was discovered that Terry Daniher had nominated his twin brother Neale to look for a coaching position instead of him) only to be displaced by the Akermanis statement about performance enhancing drugs use by a West Coast player whose name shall not be mentioned for fear of legal retribution. The problem is that Akers was believed so much that the drug testers descended on the Eagles headquarters here in Perth like a group of politicians on a holiday from parliamentary sittings. Who knows what the truth is and

Setanta US On DISH Network; Setanta Canada Now Available

Setanta added DISH Network to it's US distribution as of 1 August and is now available as a free trial to DISH subscribers.  As of 9 August, Setanta Canada has started to appear on some cable systems in Canada, notably on Shaw Cable in the prairie provinces and some Rogers Cable systems, and is on Bell ExpressVu satellite as ch. 420.   AFANA welcomes reports from Canadians who receiving the channel.  The Canadian feed was initially identical with the US feed with the same schedule of coverage but now with different commercials.   We are advised that it will soon have a different schedule (which if it affects AFL coverage, we will list separately).

The US channel will be available as a trial to DISH users until either 5 or 9 September (the date varies in the reports we have received).  Fans should try ch. 284 (trial) or permanent channel 406.  The Canadian channel is also available as a trial on the systems we are currently aware of (perhaps until Sept. 4 or 5 in some reports), and channel numbers will vary on cable systems.  Digital cable is required to receive it.  After the trial concludes, the price will be either US$14.99 or CAN$14.99 respectively.

We expect Setanta US to begin to be available on some cable systems as early as September, but no announcement has been made by Setanta yet.

Our TV pages and newsletters will have more on these developments over the next week.

AFL Weekly Review Round 18 2007

by Tim Murphy

At Docklands:

Footscray   4.5   6.9    7.11   12.13.85
St. Kilda   3.3   8.4   10.10   12.13.85

If the Stainers don't make the finals, they'll look back on this and the Collywood game as ones which were fumbled and dropped like a Brendon Gale marking attempt. This flooding-dominated game wasn't quite as bad as the Magpie one perhaps, as the Bulldogs controlled the ball for long periods and had a result coming, maybe. But when the Stainers led by 23 points,
