Dockers Sink Navy Blues in Wet

Chris Kowald reporting for AFANA from Domain Stadium, Perth.

The Fremantle Dockers were favorites to beat a young Carlton Blues team, but somebody forgot to tell Carlton.

The AFL competition in 2017 has so far been littered with upset results. Perhaps, with the exception of Brisbane, any team is capable of beating any other team on their day; such is the closeness of the competition. The difference between a win and a loss is more often measured in ounces of desperation rather than bundles of skill.

Chris Kowald reporting for AFANA from Domain Stadium, Perth.

The Fremantle Dockers withstood a determined challenge from the Essendon Bombers, to dominate in the final quarter and score a morale boosting victory in energy sapping conditions. Having earlier defeated the Eagles at the same venue in Round 12, Adelaide's victory marks the first time the Crows have won two games in in Perth in the same season. In a fierce and uncompromising game, Geelong managed to overcome the determination of Fremantle to win and restore their top four credentials, at least for a few hours. With the congestion at the top end of the standings, they may still find themselves in sixth or seventh by the end of the weekend.

It took eleven weeks of hard work, but Fremantle finally have their first win on the board for 2016. Their opponents, the Essendon Bombers, tried gallantly all game. Giants Add to Dockers Nightmare

Chris Kowald reporting for AFANA from Domain Stadium, Perth, Australia

The Greater Western Sydney Giants showed growing maturity to stave off a spirited Fremantle, to record their first ever victory against the Dockers at Domain Stadium. Ross Needs Win
The defenses of both teams performed well under pressure, but the midfielders struggled to move the ball past center effectively. The first quarter consisted of both teams attacking the ball but showing very little method. Dockers Pinch Thriller

Rick Browner reporting for AFANA from Patersons Stadium, Perth

Fremantle picked a win out of the pocket of Carlton at Patersons Stadium in their Round 19 clash. Pre-game defiant Blues' coach Mick Malthouse was adamant that they weren’t in Perth to “just lay down”. Although their 2014 season has been less than impressive, Carlton had won six out of their past nine encounters in Perth so they had some reason to feel confident. The Dockers brought their "A Team" to the encounter after an embarrassing humiliation in their last game against St Kilda and the Dockers needed every man as the match went down to the last 40 seconds to decide the winner.
