The AFL quietly announced with a post on the AFL website (and a short note to AFANA) that for Round 17 the AFL website will have free streaming of TV coverage to the USA and Canada this weekend.   The AFL also added a banner on the AFL home page about this.  The note to AFANA said:

"Please note that will stream all eight matches live into the UK, Ireland, USA and Canada over the course of Round 17."

There is no indication if this likely to continue past this weekend or not.   We also do not know how Setanta feels about this.  The long running issues with the delivery of video via the AFL website (managed by Telstra and Aussie Sport TV on behalf of the AFL) are probably still there so fans should expect that if they have had problems in the past year or two with TV streaming that will not have changed.   (Disclosure:  AFANA receives a commission from Aussie Sport TV for any subscriptions to the service purchased via links and banners on this site.)

Regarding radio coverage:  AFL streaming radio coverage has been free for some time now (but generally through the AFL web site only not radio station sites. However, the blocking occasionally fails to occur on the radio station web sites.  See our Featured AFL Matches on Radio page for info on that.)
