Any news on MHz or any other changes for the 2013 season?

Posted by admincms on January 16, 2013

We are gathering information from the networks and AFL right now.  The AFL just returned this week from the holiday break so it may be a bit longer before there is any info.  Historically, we rarely have all the details before mid-February.  We will post a front page article as soon as we have something concrete.

We are not expecting any major changes from the coverage in place at the end of last season.

Hi Rob Just thought I'd send this message to update you on some info re LiveAFL.TV (although you are probably aware of this situation). I subscribed to them on a yearly basis last year and just recently went to the site to get some updates from the off season etc. For about the last week nothing plays on the site, no replays, updates- NADA. So I emailed them and at first got the standard "we are looking into it" reply. So after I tried again last night I asked them to answer how I would be compensated for missing a week for which I had paid and then got this reply yesterday; "I am afraid that Perform Group no longer holds the rights to AFL matches this year, we will shortly be sending emails to all our valued customers providing further information on their subscriptions." OHOH. Don't like the sound of that. Do you have any info, if not, just thought I'd update you. Thanks and appreciate all you do Rick

Hi Rick,

Just as with the TV coverage, we are only at the beginning of the effort to gather info on internet coverage this year. As for Perform Group, I won't mourn the loss. The actual rights have been held by Telstra for many years now. All Perform did was provide the platform for the video. My guess is that Telstra either took it back in-house or has a new platform partner.  Stay tuned.

Hi Rob Thanks for the info. I also won't "mourn the loss". If there is anything I can do to help this season let me know Thanks Rick

Except for the first couple weeks I didn't have any complaints about Perform.  But then, I didn't subscribe until May 3rd.  I also sent them an Email about refunding my unused subscription amount and received the same same response as Rick regarding refunds.

Hello again Rob> When you do know what the AFL chooses to do re: their internet oversees 2013 season, will you be posting it here? Thanks Rick
Posted by admincms on January 27, 2013

Hi Rick,

We will be posting it on a front page article and within a few days after that, revise all the relevant web pages on the site.

If there was any doubt before we now know for sure LIVESPORT.TV won’t be streaming footy this season.  The following message appears on their website.

“Unfortunately LIVESPORT.TV will not be showing the 2013 season of the AFL online. For more information about our other sports subscriptions please visit LIVESPORT.TV. We will make sure you are not billed for the 2013 season however please contact us if you have any account queries.

“For information about how you can watch AFL online in 2013 please visit the AFL website.

“We thank you for subscribing with us and hope that you continue to enjoy LIVESPORT.”

I still haven’t heard anything from them regarding a refund for my unused subscription time.

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that LIVEAFL were not doing 2013. It said to go to the AFL website and of course there was nothing there. As soon as we find out whats going on the better. Need my fix of AFL for 2013.
Posted by Rick Dawes (not verified) on January 31, 2013

Same here Bob. I'm owed about a month and a half (much more if you choose to count all the time their site was down or matches were delayed last year). Moral of the story for me, never ever buy a full year subscription to some internet company based overseas. Guess we'll see soon what our options for this year will be Rick

I am MORTIFIED> This LIVETV not being showed in 2013 was the only thing that stopped me going crazy for my homesickness. Living in the USA was my true Aussie Fix PLLLEEEEASE!!!!! HELP!
Posted by Bob on January 31, 2013

It appears progress is being made.  Go the the AFL website, click "TV & Radio", then "INTERNATIONAL BTOADCAST PARTNERS".  Looks like there will be something called AFL.TV for 2013.  They haven't published options or costs yet, but it says we will be able to try it for free during the NAB cup.

Everyone can chill a bit on this. The AFL says a new internet TV platform will be made available beginning sometime in the next week. No need to panic. You will still have something this year. Really now, do you think they couldn't do it and get away with that in 2013? We have details soon.

"I still haven’t heard anything from them regarding a refund for my unused subscription time"

Update... The above comment still applies.  Haven't heard anything regarding any refund for unused time from last year's subscription.

Hi Rob: Just saw your post from this am. I got my email from AFL today. Very curious to see starting Thursday night what the product will look like. Then more importantly to myself is quality and availability of replay's. It just has to be better than what we got from Perform. Fingers crossed and looking forward to a great year. Rick

First thing I would do at this point is go to the AFL web site and submit a complaint. If you get no response from that in a week or so, I will take it to the AFL.

I watched the first quarter of last year's Grand Final off the new site, attaching my Chromebook to my HDTV, and the quality was fine.  I hope the live streaming is as good.

The AFANA site is worse than useless. Why are you not covering the sudden withdrawal of AFL games from the Perform Media site (livesport.tv) and the complete lack of communication by AFL and Livesport regarding refunds or transfer of subscriptions already paid for in advance??

Dear Frustrated,

Frankly, I have no idea what you are talking about. Did you go to our home page? The LEAD article is on the 2013 coverage (including the internet!) and details the changes the AFL made to it. Perform is gone and a new host is in. There is considerable detail there with multiple updates and comments made and answered.

As to the refund situation. If you read the entire comments in this thread we had advised fans to contact the AFL if needed and offered to assist should that prove necessary. Which we will do on your behalf at no cost to you except the time to give us the particulars.

And oh yea... we are all volunteers at AFANA. We survive with volunteer help and contributions to support what we do. It's not free.

Rob,

Do you have an AFL Email address we can send our questions to?  Apparently my previous Email concerning a subscription refund went to Perform, and I have no idea if they ever forwarded it to the AFL.  The "contact us" links on the AFL website appear to send to BigPond, not the AFL.

Thanks.

Bob

Use the contact link at the blue bottom section of the page under "AFL HQ". Yes, that goes to a Telstra page but you're fine. Specifiy "non-BigPond" and I would send an inquiry to "AFL Membership" (these are drop downs) so it gets seen. It won't be the right person but it should get forwarded so someone who can help. In the meantime, I will ask the AFL for an address to use for this.

Just send them a message.  The message confirmation screen said they aim to respond within two business days.  I'll post here when / if I hear anything back.

FYI.. The operating system drop down menu doesn't include Windows 7 so I chose XP,  I doubt they'll care since my question isn't technical, but you might want to mention it in one of your communications to them.

Thanks Rob.

OK, so here I am sitting here Saturday night (Sunday in AU), and the response time on the new site is horrific. Two different times (8:00pm and 11:00pm) I got on it to watch replays of the NAB matches, and I’m waiting anywhere from 20-40 seconds between clicks. When I finally get to the video it streams great without any delays, but getting to that point takes forever. I know it’s Sunday in AU, and maybe they’ve reduced the resource to perform system maintenance. But they have to be aware that it’s not Sunday in other parts of the world, and we expect acceptable service levels at all times.

Thanks for the report Bob. I'll mention to the AFL that there were issues accessing the streams. Fortunately, its the NAB Cup week 1.

Well I had no problem whatsoever either with live or replay...Was very impressed with the site....

Dennis...

I haven't had problems other times I've used it, but Saturday night was certainly a problem.

Posted by Rick Dawes (not verified) on February 18, 2013

Hi Bob: Now that you mention it, I had the same issue's Sat night. You click the icon for site and it took a good 45 seconds or so to access the site, but once there, it worked fine Rick

The AFL has advised me a plan is in the works to roll over unfinished subscriptions from last year to this year and they will give me details as soon as they are available.  Worst case: you get credit for what you have already paid for (in other words credit for at least part of the season). No word if you can decline that and request a refund instead. More when we have it.

I have been watching the NAB cup first round 2013 on the new AFL TV (pretty good quality) and every game only has the first half available . I have been writing to them but nothing has changed yet and it half way through the week now and still no second halves. Could this be more of the same cr*p that we went through with Livesport ???

Hi Clyde,

We will bring this to the attention of the AFL. My guess is that it may not be the fault of Rightster (or was it the fault of Perform) but rather it goes back to the host network (Seven or Foxtel). They originate the video and have to provide it. Either way, we'll let the AFL know.

Also, please watch your language. This is a family friendly site (as the Terms and Conditions indicate).

Clyde, I haven't had any trouble regarding second halves.  Are you aware that it doesn't just flow into the second half after the first half completes?  You have to go back to the schedule page and click on the second half (Q2)  icon in order to play it.

Hey Rob...I do not know what is going on but I had the 1st AND 2nd halves of every game this past w/end...had them available yesterday and still today! How could it be that some are getting it all and some are not????

Dennis...

Posted by Bob on February 22, 2013

Hi Rob,

You might want to suggest to the AFL that they look into enhancing the replay feature so the streaming will automatically continue into the next quarter when a quarter completes.  It would simplify things for everyone.  They used to have this feature a few years ago.

************************************ UPDATE **************************************************

Well, it's been two weeks since I sent my message and still no response. Looks like I'll just have to keep waiting to see if / how I get my refund. If not I guess I'll just chalk it up to another bad experience with the AFL.

Posted by admincms on March 02, 2013

Thanks for the update.  The AFL has promised me info this coming week on what customers owed credit or refunds from last season can do to make a claim. I will post here when I hear something from them. I am not going to let this drop.

Trouble with AFLlive already...waited a few hours for the full replay of Swans/St Kilda. ...fine until less than halfway through the last quarter it suddenly transferred to the Eagles pre-game...not even the bloody game itself...just a raw feed that mostly was not being transmitted...just shots of the murmouring crowd...and OH...it also briefly crossed to a pre-game Rugby League feed. It never returned to the programmed game....no apology no results...nothing....please explain AFL video programmers...I know they never will....

On the subject of problems with AFL Live...  There were numerous transmission stopages in the live broadcast of the Adelaide - Geelong game Friday, mostly but not entirely in the first quarter.  I tried watching on both my Chromebook and dual Core I5 laptop with the same result on both.  Also streamed  a few minutes of the Bulldogs - Hawthorn video to verify my ISP or wireless home network wasn't the problem.  No problems streaming the video, just the live broadcast.

It looks like they're a week overdue with their update Rob. Why am I not surprised?

Posted by admincms on March 15, 2013

Yes, Bob, no answer so far. I sent follow-up messages to the AFL earlier this week.I haven't let it drop but have been ill recently so I'm a little behind the curve.

Update... I received an Email from AFLTV this morning saying they have transferred my unused subscription from last year to my AFLTV account.  So I log onto the account and it says I do not have any active subscriptions.  I just sent them an Email asking what's going on, but based on previous experience I would be surprised to receive any reply soon.  Looks like I'm going have to man up and buy a new subscription if I want to watch this Friday's game.

Yet another update....  I just checked my account again, and guess what.  It now shows an 'Import' active subscription expiring May 3rd!!!  I don't know if my Email reached someone over there already, or if they just had their Emails and updates out of sync.  Anyway, if my 'Import' subscription works Friday I'm hoping I'll be good till May.  After that I guess I'll have to buy whatever subscription they are offering then.

Yet another other update...  Just received an Email from Leah at AFLTV Customer Service.  She said they fixed it, so I guess my Email did get through.

Good to hear Bob. And further to this, the following was received from the AFL on Monday but due to illness and issues with fighting the Chinese spammers here, I haven't been able to post it before now:

"A communication regarding the roll over to previous Perform customers will be sent over the next few days and the subscription options will also be live on the site within the next day or so."

Based on your results, that does indeed seem to be happening and I can confirm the subscription options are now live.

With Fox soccer becoming FXX on Sept 2nd, is there reason for concern that FSplus will disappear on the eve of the finals?
Posted by admincms on July 27, 2013

We don't believe so and both the AFLand Fox have previously assured us that all finals matches will air live as planned. However, we have requested an update from FOX and are awaiting their reply. If anything suggests concern to us, we will report it.
