AFANA has launched our tipping (predict the results) competitions for 2016. Entrants are now being accepted for the competitions. We have two competitions open to our readers and fans:

The Weekly Tipping Competition. This is a standard, pick the winners of the matches every week competition. Click the link to find out the details and how to sign up. The comp is free and this year, open to all. Easy to enter if you are already entering other similar comps since you use Footytips to make your weekly entries.

Our unique Top 4 Tipping Competition. This is a unique comp we have run for 20 seasons. At the start of the season you pick the 4 clubs, in order, that you expect to be in the top 4 places in the "table" or standings each week. You get two chances to change those during the season. Only three times to place your pics a season... it's about as easy as it gets.

Every week one of your clubs is there, you get points. Twice a season you can play a "wild card" and change your picks. You decide when. Your new picks are used from that point forward. At the end of the season, the fan with the most points wins. It's harder than it sounds because you have to guess who will dominate the table each week all season not just who might finish there. You only get 3 times a season to make your selections. If a club gets hot early they can pile on the points for you but if they fade late, then hopefully you've used one of those wild cards and changed your picks. Strategy matters since you need to not only guess what clubs will finish in the top 4 but who will be there most often during all 23 rounds. See the link for instructions and to sign up.

Our tipping comps for the 2011 season are open!  Fans who enter our Top 4 and Straight comps get an entry into a drawing for an autographed poster of the AFL great Peter Daicos! (You can get additional entries by donating $20 or more to AFANA before 1 May 2011.) In 2011 you have 4 options:

• Straight Tipping
• ScoreFive
• Dream Team (only 3 spots left as of 3/23/11)

At the mid-point of the AFL season, tippers in AFANA's tipping comps are standing up well against the best in Australia and around the world.   One of the comps we offer to fans is the Scorefive Footy Tipping competition.  Last season, two of our members were the high scorers for individual rounds of the season and at seasons end, we placed 3 in the top 400 in this comp on a worldwide basis (entries number several thousand, mostly from Australia).   This season, AFANA's recently retired Chairman, Rob de Santos, is sitting in 4th place at the half way point!  Two more AFANAns are in the top 50.  This is all the more amazing when you realize that Rob was only in a tie for 5th of our member's only tipping comp after round 10!  So, while most our members are Americans, Canadians, or Aussies living in the US, we know our footy!

So, think you have what it takes?  We hear there is this minor round ball football competition starting in South Africa in a few days.  World Cup something or other.  The Scorefive folks are offering tippers in the World Cup comp 50,000 dollars to divy up if they can beat the best at that one.  Pretty good huh?  Scorefive are big supporters of AFANA and we think you should pop right on over and enter that comp.  Let's show them we're not just good at predicting the better form of football, but pretty good at this other form, too! 

AFANA's Tipping Comps for 2010 are now accepting entries.  We have several competitions here at afana.com:

Our unique Top 4 Competition:  3 times during the season you pick the 4 clubs you think are most likely to be in the top 4 positions in the standings each week for the succeeding 7 or 8 weeks.  (You only get one set of 4 for those weeks.)  The closer your picks are in any particular week, the more points you accumulate that week.  The top point getter at the end of the season takes home the honors.  To learn more see our Top 4 signup page.  This is open to any interested fan. It's free and not as easy as it looks.  

Our Members Tipping Competition:  This is a conventional tipping competition where each week you pick the 8 winners from the matches for that round.  Get all 8 right or be the only one to get a particular match correct and get bonus points.  So if you are entered in a bigger competition at one of the other footy sites (who could they be?), why not send in your tips to AFANA, too?  All that's required is that you have donated (any amount!) to AFANA in the past year (and if you haven't why not donate now?).  For more details see the Member's Tipping signup page.
