Kim Densham reporting for AFANA from Melbourne

The Second Qualifying Final between Geelong and St Kilda at the MCG started out in perfect spring weather but by half time the conditions had deteriorated into a downpour. The Cats were firm favorites but were outplayed and lost the match in the second quarter, despite making a fighting comeback in the final term. The Cats' loss was controversial after a free kick was paid against Cameron Mooney for a push in the back on James Gwilt. Play had gone on with Cats' Captain Cameron Ling kicking the "winning goal". To the delight of every Saints' fan, and to the dismay and disgust of Cats supporters, the goal was disallowed and St Kilda ran out winners.
