Several clubs have declared their intention to draft sons of former players under the father-son rule. They are:

Joe Daniher (Calder Cannons), nominated by Essendon, son of Anthony (118 games 1987-94), Lachlan Hunter (Western Jets), nominated by Western Bulldogs son of Mark (130 games 1988-96) and Jack Viney (Casey Scorpions), nominated by Melbourne, son of Todd (233 games 1987-99).

Other clubs have the option to bid on the nominated players. If a bid is made, the nominating club must use their next available selection to retain the player. If the club declines to match the selection bid, the club with the successful bid is then obligated to use the bid selection to draft the player. If no bid is made by another club, the nominating club will forfeit their last draft selection to select the player.

Compensation selections that have been activated by the clubs are not used in the bidding.
