There are several standard clichés which come from club boards when a senior coach is about to be fired. The first death knell comes in the form of a club statement declaring the coach has the support of the board. The second is the club's statement that a review will take place either mid-season or at the end of the year. Several weeks ago the alarm bells began to toll at Carlton. Then - just before Round Eight - the board issued the statement that a review would take place during Carlton's bye week in Round 11.
As it transpired, the axe fell two weeks early, with a meeting taking place Tuesday afternoon after the Blues' loss to Geelong.
