A California high school football punter could go down in history as the youngest ever international Australian Rules football talent to be discovered. Brandon Heicklen, 14, has been a junior football star since the age of eight, two years after he first began learning through a junior kicking camp. Even at the tender age of 12, he was a prodigious kick and his 55 yard (50 meters) kicks have attracted the attention of the AFL.

St. Kilda champion Robert Harvey announced that he would retire at the end of the season. Harvey, who said telling his teammates was the hardest thing he had ever done, said he believed it was the right time to step aside to give younger players a chance and also said he was looking forward to spending more time with his wife and children.
