SANFL Hall Of Fame

The SANFL recently held the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Among the inductees were Port players Matthew Primus and Chad Cornes and Adelaide stars Tony Modra and Tyson Edwards. Primus and Cornes join former teammates Warren Tredrea and Josh Francou as Hall of Fame members.

AFL Hall Of Fame

Just ahead of Round 12, the AFL held the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Five of the inductees are from the modern era: Brad Johnson, Anthony Koutoufides, Warren Tredrea, Andrew McLeod, and Matthew Richardson. The sixth was the late Ern Henfry who was represented by his son. All of the inductees were team captains during their careers.

Football World Mourns Dean Bailey

Less than a week before the start of Round One, former Melbourne coach Dean Bailey passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Bailey joined Adelaide as strategy and innovation coach in late 2011 after leaving the Melbourne Demons. The club granted him a leave of absence after his illness was diagnosed last November. Shortly after the announcement of his passing, tributes poured in from all sectors of the football community. All and sundry described him as a very positive person, fiercely loyal and one who had a great sense of humor. Bailey was 47 and is survived by his wife Caron and sons Darcy and Mitchell.

Big Names Sign With Giants

The Western Sydney Giants have signed former Carlton fullback Stephen Silvagni as the club's list manager. Silvagni will play a key role in putting together the team list ahead of their 2012 entry into the AFL. Silvagni has been an assistant coach with St. Kilda for the past four seasons.

Surgeons Voice LARS Concerns

Sydney's Nick Malceski can be considered an AFL pioneer. Several years ago, he wrecked his knee late in the season and was facing a year on the sidelines until a new procedure came along. The LARS system, which uses synthetic fibers to create tissue, saw Malceski back on the field after just four months.

Tredrea Calls It A Day

In the week leading up to Round 18, Port Adelaide's Warren Tredrea announced his immediate retirement. In the announcement he said he felt himself struggling mentally and had already decided to retire at the end of the season. He said that while he loved training and playing, being the face of the club and all that entails was wearing on him.
