admincms's picture

by admincms — Fri, 02/01/2013 - 9:10pm — Last Updated: Mon, 03/24/2014 - 2:39pm

[Revised 8 Feb 2013 with details on Fox plans and Canada and 10, 11, and 12 Feb with more on AFL-TV. Revised 27 Feb with more from Fox. Revised 13 March with more on Fox. Also initial TV schedules were posted on the main TV schedule page.. Readers on the home page please press "Read More" below to see this entire article. Also see the comments.] AFANA has some preliminary information on the internet and TV coverage for the upcoming 2013 season. We will be updating this post over the next few weeks as more information becomes available. Here are the main points to know:

* The AFL has indicated that Fox Soccer Plus (FSP) will provide the same coverage in 2013 as in 2012 and that means two live matches per week with occasional repeats. Fox has not yet responded to our inquiries so we do not have confirmation from their end. However, since this is consistent with what both the AFL and Fox said was the agreed deal for 2012-2014 we have minimal concern. [Update: 27 Feb.: Fox has replied, telling AFANA in part: "We will be broadcasting the 2013 AFL Season. There will be a minimum of 2 live games per week on FOX Soccer Plus, in HD, with the season kicking off Saturday, March 23rd. We will be broadcasting every playoff match including the Grand Final."]

* AFANA is aware of various reports on the plans by Fox to convert several existing channels to national sports channels  read more »

admincms's picture

by admincms — Tue, 06/24/2008 - 12:26am — Last Updated: Thu, 06/26/2008 - 12:28pm

After years of frustration, things are about to get a lot better for viewers of AFL video online beginning July 3rd.   A new service called Aussie Sport TV is coming online and will offer AFL video in flash format (similar to YouTube and other sites).   This will replace the existing video offerings of Telstra's Bigpond service, including for afl.com.au subscribers.   Even better, some of that video will be available here on AFANA.com.   We will have more details on AFANA's part of this very shortly.   Please note:  the service will not be live until July 3rd.   If you are not already a subscriber to afl.com.au you can subscribe to this new service at this link:  Aussie Sport TV.  (Please use this link only as subscriptions through this link generate commissions for AFANA!).  If you already are a subscriber to afl.com.au, you are subscribed to this new service automatically at no additional charge!   Today AFL web site subscribers may have received the following notice:  read more »

Report by Johnson Leung for AFANA in Melbourne

Melbourne radio station 3AW has axed four members of its sports team after suffering a plunge in the latest ratings survey of AFL radio coverage.  3AW Executive Producer of Sport Ralph Horowitz and journalist Craig Hutchison (who presented the pre-match program on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and called the Saturday night game) were given their marching orders last week, as were Trevor Marmalade and John Rothfield (aka Dr Turf), co-presenters of Saturday morning sports/variety show Glossing Over, which was also dropped. Hutchison and Marmalade are colleagues at Channel Nine Melbourne.  read more »
