All-Australian defender Nathan Bock will not play out the season with the Crows after announcing he had accepted an offer to join the Gold Coast Suns next season. After Bock informed club officials of his decision, Coach Neil Craig said Bock would not be selected for the remaining games. Bock said he had no problem with the club opting to give a younger player an opportunity.
General Manager Phil Harper expressed disappointment at losing a player of Bock’s quality but praised Bock for his honesty in informing the club now so they could plan for the future. It is believed Bock was offered almost $2 million dollars for several years by the Gold Coast. However, his manager is still in discussions with the club. Bock said his decision was made partly so he could set himself up for his post-footy future.
NATHAN BOCK
Debut: 2004
GAMES: 113
GOALS: 56
HONORS: 2008 All-Australian, 2008 Club Best & Fairest, 2007 Showdown Medal (best on ground against Port Adelaide)
There has also been speculation that Port Adelaide's Nathan Krakouer and Western Bulldog Jarrod Harbrow may shift from their respective clubs to join the new AFL franchise. Speculation continues to swirl regarding Gary Ablett. It has been no secret for much of the season that the Gold Coast is keen to lure Ablett north, where he would be reunited with brother Nathan (who quit the Cats at the end of 2007). Ablett has put off contract negotiations until the end of the season, further fuelling the rumor mill about a possible change of clubs.
