Foxtel Games Bid
One fly in the ointment is the continuing court case in which Foxtel is only one of a number of outlets being sued by Seven. As a result, Foxtel has been negotiating only with the Ten Network.
Meanwhile, despite several AFL Commissioners and some clubs warming to the idea, Andrew Demetriou has again refuted any notion of a night Grand Final. However, new broadcast partners Seven and Ten both believe a night GF is inevitable in the future.

The Victorian Government and the AFL have announced a $55 million upgrade of seven former VFL/AFL grounds in Melbourne: Punt Road, Princes Park, Moorabbin, Windy Hill, Victoria Park, Waverley Park and Arden Street.

Under the plan, iconic grandstands at Princes Park and Moorabbin will be demolished and replaced by community sports centures. The other five grounds will also be partly redeveloped.

Every grandstand at the Saints' Moorabbin base, as well as the social club and all existing buildings, will be torn down and replaced by a multi-purpose venue including a pool and sports hall. The club's HQ, including the infamous "animal enclosure" that was home to the most parochial fans, will boast a futuristic all-in-one complex.

Barnstorming Neitz Smashes Games Record and Saints

Melbourne captain David Neitz marked his third prominent milestone in just over a season--the Demons games record, with a commanding eight goal haul against St Kilda yesterday at Melbourne's spiritual home, the MCG. Neitz Melbourne's longest serving captain, adds the game record to his recently attained goal kicking mark.

Although St Kilda's Troy Schwarze, kicked the first goal of the game,  it was Neitz who shaped it, kicking the first three goals for Melbourne.  Neitz looked dangerous in the air and on the ground against St Kilda's best defender, Max Hudgeton. His efforts came on the end of bullocking Brock McLean, perhaps the most improved midfielder in the competition in 2006. McLean was ably assisted by James McDonald and Clint Bartram.   Russell Robertson whose entire Melbourne career has been played under Neitz's captaincy added another goal for the Demons, the pair combining well.
